Sometimes on jazz radio, they play Dexter Gordon.
He has a nice touch on ballads.

I don't own any of his recordings. Anyone care to
recommend one or two CD, the "definitive", so to speak?

The high-water mark is The Complete Blue Note Sixties Sessions, but it's
6 CDs, out of print, and expensive now.

As an alternative, you could check out this Euro public-domain release:

https://www.amazon.com/Classic-Albums-Alright-Calling-
Swingin/dp/B01FV8HKK8

These kinds of releases are often a mixed bag, but one review indicates
the sound quality is pretty good, and you're probably not going to find
better value for the money.
