The sharply rising inflation is reason for finance ministers of the rich industrialized countries united in the G7 to consult with each other. Sources report to Bloomberg news agency that a virtual meeting is planned for Monday. The sharply rising inflation is undermining, among other things, the purchasing power of consumers.

The talks are taking place at a time when the global economy is experiencing major supply chain problems. The ministers will also talk about health care, the sources said. The G7 consists of France, Italy, Japan, Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States.

The news about the meeting follows shortly after the new inflation rate from the United States. That was the highest level in nearly 40 years.

Year-over-year CPI for November came in this morning at 6.8%, which is in-line with consensus expectations and is approximately a four-decade high. It's also the biggest gap over short-term interest rates since the 1940s.
