I don't know about world wide, but here in New Zealand teachers are
forced to waste so much time on idiocy like checking kids' lunchboxes,
twiddling with tablets / laptops, sports, and Political Correctness,
plus an inability to actual punish naughty / abusive / disruptive kids,
that they don't really have time to teach actual useful things like
"the three Rs" any more. :-(

Depends on your accent ... they can be all Rs: Reading 'Riting, and
'Rithmatic. ;-)

Another problem for teachers these days is all the fad "diagnoses".
Things like ADHD, autism, dyslexia, etc. Although there will be some a
few kids with such things, most are simply given the label by quacks
and then the kids get spoiled by trying to appease their every whim and
simply become too lazy to learn.
