This is possibly higher than indicated as delta still impacts about 5% of infectees with omicron now making up 95% of infections. However, it's CLEAR the threat from covid is a fraction of what it once was, despite the increase in infectiousness of the newer omicron strain.
1 million omicron cases should result in about 15,000 deaths, depending on which groups are becoming infected the most. New York, at the height of the first wave was losing this many people in 3 days.

the vaccinated show no better immunity to the new strain than the vaccinated. More of them now make up what hospitallizations there are.
Also FAR fewer are on ventilators which is why you see 30 TIMES fewer deaths per infected people.

I wonder how dangerous the Deltacron mutation will turn out to be. For
those who aren't aware a new variation of Covid-19 has been found (in
Cyprus) that shares characteristics of the Delta and Omicron
variation. Apparently 25 cases have been identified so far.

My inexpert guess is that vaccines will have intermediate efficacy.
