Florida.

At Florida golf courses, there are literal hazards in the water hazards.

So, what do Floridians do when they encounter alligators in their
day-to-day lives? Do they call Animal Control or the police? Do they
shoot the alligator themselves if they have a weapon handy? Do they just
live and let live? This can't be such a rare occurrence that they have
no standard policy for it, although that policy might differ from county
to county.

I'm curious how they balance the legitimate safety concerns of citizens
with the animal lovers' desire to leave nature untouched.

Also, how do golfers handle it if an alligator disrupts their game,
particularly by moving a ball (if they ever do that)?

I remember reading about a golf course in Kenya where the house rule
was that a player could replace his ball without penalty if his ball
had been eaten or otherwise removed from play by a wild animal.....

I wonder if they can replace the *player* if they are eaten by a wild
animal? ;-)

Yes, but not if they're eaten by an opponent. (Well, it IS Africa...)

I would think at that point getting off the course quickly would be
the main issue for the surviving members of the foursome!

Survivor 3 was filmed in a wildlife preserve in Kenya and unlike most
seasons the players were kept in a fenced off area after dark to
prevent unpleasant nocturnal aniimal encounters.

Yes that did include lions....
