"Wallander" is an original Netflix series about a young
detective in Sweden. I watched it mainly because I
spent some time in Sweden three years ago and
it's a beautiful country.

"Wallander" has an interesting cast and good acting
but the series really comes from a politically correct,
left wing perspective. Sweden has had an influx of
muslim and African immigrants. They have created
a major increase in crimes, which the Swedish government
pretty much ignores.

Wallander is definitely not your typical American cop
drama. For one thing, Walander gets his ass kicked
literally every time he goes one on one with a bad guy.
And the Swedish police seem more interested in
proper "Protocol" than in taking down the bad guys.
Still, seeing things from the Swedish view is interesting.

There are two Wallander series. The original Wallander stars Kenneth
Branagh and started in 2008. The new series is "Young Wallander" and
that's the one with the young guy Irish Mike mentions in his OP. Sorta
like Superman and Smallville.

The UK version was okay-ish.

There were also two earlier Swedish versions - a series of nine movies
in 1994-2007 and a separate 32-episode TV series in 2005-2013.

"Young Wallander" is just over-violent rubbish that is simply trying to
jump on the prequel band-wagon (shows like "Endeavour" and "Prime
Suspect 1973") and doing so incredibly badly. "Young Wallander" doesn't
fit with the original, so is in reality a totally different
sub-franchise / reboot. Even the time frames don't match, so at best
you'd have to think of it as "Wallander Jnr", the original's son or
even grandson. We stopped bothering to watch it after the first
episode. There has been no announcement yet of whether or not there
will be a third season.

More bullshit. The original was Swedish, c.2005. The BBC then remade
it with Branagh. Both were good. The Swedish version was obviously a
lower budget production but still fascinating. Branagh's version was
excellent, particularly for his performance. How the fuck is this so
hard to understand?
