There wasn't as much stuff to sell back then.

But I am seeing at least 43-45 minutes of show when the commercials are
removed.

Yeah, Days runs about 35-36 minutes. Probably most daytime shows do, but
night time shows are about 6 to 8 minutes longer. A few, which I think
are on cable channels run over 50 minutes.

The Battlestar Galactica episodes I was watching from 2004-2009 came in
around 43 minutes each w/o commercials.
