I'm still planning a last person on Earth movie marathon, that will
include both of these movies. But I've pushed it out a bit. I never
considered The Quiet Earth to be a remake of The World, The Flesh and
the Devil. Although obviously I think they should pair well together.
I'll keep an eye out for more overt similarities when I watch them.

I watched:

Transylvania 6-5000 (blu-ray) 1985 comedy starring Jeff Goldblum and Ed
Begley Jr. as two American tabloid journalists who travel to
Transylvania to investigate a Frankenstein's monster siting. Along the
way they encounter a zany cast of characters. This was mostly
background noise while I listened to the director commentary. There
were a lot of good bits in the commentary. This cast was almost all
over 6 foot tall. Begley was cast in the movie because he was friends
with Goldblum and Goldblum wanted to work with him. And Begley
recommended Michael Richards for his role because they were friends.
Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis met and fell in love while making this
movie. A lot of the movie was improvised by the cast on the spot, in
particular the director let Michael Richards just do whatever he wanted
to do. Carol Kane's character was supposed to be much dirtier and
uglier, but she refused to play her character that way. The director
complained this created a problem because she looked better than her
husband which made no sense that he would reject her for not looking
good enough. Another thing the director complained about was this was
his first movie, and he expected the cast and everyone to rally around
him and help him make it. He said that wasn't the case at all. No one
helped. Ed Begley Jr. was constantly arguing and questioning him, and
the producers were always on his back. One other detail I didn't
realize until the director commentary spelled it out is the guy who
directed this, Rudy De Luca, worked a lot with Mel Brooks. Mel Brooks
was on the set when he noticed Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis and thought
to cast them in his upcoming movie The Fly. Which had me thinking, what
the heck does Mel Brooks have to do with The Fly. Well as it turns out,
Mel Brooks produced The Fly.

Earth Girls Are Easy (TCM) 1989 comedy starring Jeff Goldblum as an
alien who falls in love with Geena Davis. Jim Carrey and Damon Wayans
also co-star as aliens. It's been well over 20 years since I last saw
this. Every now and then I'd record and delete it unwatched. But after
recording it last year I left it on my DVR waiting until I was in the
mood to see it again. It has a nice 2.35 print. I've never seen it
look this good before. Although the movie itself was mostly background
noise. At least I can finally check it off my watch list and delete the
recording from my DVR.

The Fly (blu-ray) 1986 horror movie directed by David Cronenberg and
starring Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis. This has been on my watch list
for a while. I decided to move it to the top of the schedule once I got
my home theater upgrade and by pure coincidence Cronenberg had a new
movie coming out around the same time that I was planning to watch The
Fly. It holds up very well and the disc had a nice trivia track.
Although in hindsight, I think I should have listened to the commentary.

The Fly II (blu-ray) 1989 horror sequel directed by the guy who did the
special effects on the first movie. To my shock there was a commentary
track on the disc that I hadn't listened to yet. But then I realized
the reason I skipped the track last time is the disc doesn't have
subtitles and I guess last time I wanted to follow the plot. I was less
worried about that this time and *really* wanted to listen to the
director commentary. On the commentary they mentioned once again that
Mel Brooks produced the movie and was heavily involved in the making.
On the commentary they said Zaphne Zuniga is the female lead because she
starred in Spaceballs and Brooks simply announced she'd be starring in
this movie too. I never noticed she's in both movies before! The
director also said all the graphic blood and guts was at Brooks
insistence. Even though Brooks is known for comedy, he is a true horror
fan.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (Paramount+) - "Memento Mori" - Because
apparently every episode has to reference another episode, this episode
is a combination of the TOS episode "Balance of Terror" with a touch of
"Wrath of Khan" tossed in because why not. But as always, that doesn't
make a bad episode. I mean at least they are ripping off the good stuff.

"Spock Amok" - Do I really need to spell out which episode this one
referenced? Hey and Trek does a body swap episode. I think someone was
trying to be funny, but it wasn't.

The Boys (Amazon streaming) - "Payback" and "The Only Man In The Sky" -
I watched the first two episodes of season 3. They were OK.

You obviously meant to type "also co-star because they are aliens". :P

I've done good in this world. Now I'm tired and just want to be a cranky
dirty old man.
