VERSE 1

Ev'ry so often Florida is struck,
By a large cyclone running amok,
Leaving destruction spread in its wake,
Forcing decisions wrenching to take.

Some towns and cities lie in the path,
Of nature's fury, facing her wrath.
Climate is changing, doling out pain.
How should we tackle each hurricane?

CHORUS

After the storm is over,
After the trees are downed,
After the floods have vanished,
After some folks have drowned,
Will people build their structures,
Back to a prior norm,
Or now abandon their low lands,
After the storm?

VERSE 2

Barrier islands, ravishing to roam.
Are they the right place to build a home?
Rising sea level coupled with surge,
Means we should pull right back from the verge.

As we look forward to major storms,
We would be wise to think through reforms.
All of our coastline is under threat.
You might say: "We ain't seen nothin' yet!"

CHORUS

VERSE 3

Hurricanes happen; yes, and, when they do,
Lives are disrupted, governments, too.
When roads are blocked and no stores nearby,
People succumb, and some people die.

As global warming heats up the seas,
Storms will intensify by degrees.
If coastal dwellers cling to the shore,
What cataclysms may lie in store?

CHORUS
