New York (CNN Business)Starbucks is planning to close 16 locations across
various cities, citing safety concerns.

"After careful consideration, we are closing some stores in locations that
have experienced a high volume of challenging incidents that make it unsafe to
continue to operate," a spokesperson told CNN Business in an email.

The stores are in Seattle; Los Angeles; Philadelphia; Washington, DC, and
Portland, Oregon. They will be closed by the end of July.

Hmm... I wonder what all those cities have in common?

Fewer Starbucks?

The only Starbucks I ever see are the ones that are like big kiosks in the
supermarkets or hospitals. And they never have any customers. The one today
was like that. They say hi to me as I walked by probably hoping I’ll come
over and buy something. But I’m not a coffee drinker, so…

My first thought when reading the headline was “16 Starbucks? So, what,
there will be one block without one?“

It depends on where you are. Here in New Zealand "Starbucks" only sells
various hot and cold drinks, but in some places they are really just
another cafe and sell food items as well (breakfast, lunch, snacks).

I've never been in one, but they're probably over-priced like most of
these franchise businesses.

I guzzle coffee, but I've never been in a Starbucks. I've waited
outside while a friend's gone in. I've had them try to give me free
samples. They can't catch me. There's really no reason for this; I'm
just keeping my streak going.

I've only ever seen two and both served on Battlestars. Apparently the
