For whatever reason, YouTube offers me clips of episods of Monk in the
suggestions. Since I'm thinking about it, here's the famous theme from
season 1 in an extended version.

I always like the first theme better, although I admit that if I had heard
the second theme first I might prefer it.

Remember when they swapped themes on Magnum PI? Higgins says that
(Original composer) Ian Freebairn-Smith is missing in action. :-)

As an instrumental, the second-season theme "It's a Jungle Out There" by
Randy Newman is decent, but Newman's lyrics are idiotic and have very
little to do with the character.

I don't know the story on this. It was written for the pilot, then used
as the theme for the first few episodes. There was a transition episode
that used one theme at the beginning and the other at the end.

I guess there was supposed to be a new theme for season 1 but it just
wasn't ready.

Both Monk themes won an Emmy, reportedly the only time the same series
has won twice for different themes.

terrible would happen in the tease, usually involving a dead body, and
then there'd suddenly be this peppy little tune. I thought it was

Me too.

I admit that sometimes the DEATH IN PARADISE theme seems a little
lighthearted right after the opening murder.
