The route is marked on a map and while no distance is specified, that
has to be many hundreds of kilometers at the very least; it may be in
the low thousands. That's a LOT of paddling through an area that has no
more than a few hundred people in it all told, meaning they're going to
be a long way from help if they need it.

Indeed - but they're planning on relaxing in Inuvik once it's done?

That's kinda like going from Chicago to New Orleans and relaxing in LA
once you're done - and that's equivalent distances. Obviously they're
not rowing from Pond Inlet to Inuvik!
