I'm pointing out the obvious, that the literary character was changed
from the novels right from the start. Bond was the consumate English snob
like Ian Fleming himself. While writing the novels, Fleming pictured the
character being played by David Niven, although even if Casino Royale
had been adapted for the movies in the mid 1950s, Niven was already too
old.

Bond was American in the first television adaptation, and Scottish in
Dr. No.

Fleming retconned Bond's ancestry -- Scottish father from the Highlands
near Glencoe -- because Fleming liked the commercial success of the film
in large part due to Sean Connery's performance.

Movie and television producers changed the character from Day One.
Nothing is sacred. If there are commercial possibilities to exploit and
the character no longer resembles the literary character, so be it.

Of course you are wrong to rule it out that it was considered. All that
matters to the two of them is whether such a radical change enhances or
harms their ability to make money over the long term. They aren't in
business to preserve Fleming's literature.

Yes, I've heard the rumor about casting Richard Madden, Scottish. I have
no idea why she's say anything out loud in public before contracts have
been signed and monies have been committed to production of the next film.

You'd think someone 5 years younger would be hired. He'll be 39 by the
time the next movie goes into production as I'm sure there is going to
be a gap of several years.

I dunno, she probably just thinks the guy is hot but it doesn't hurt to keep
the hype train rolling and have people speculating.

That is why I don't believe they ever considered it, because it wouldn't
be plausible for a moment that it would enhance their ability to make
money.
