Mostly focused on getting through streaming TV series yesterday:

The Gilded Age (HBO Max) - "Let the Tournament Begin" (ep. #1.9, the
season #1 finale).
This ends season #1 well, concluding with a ball! Who doesn't like a
good ostentatious ball!?!!
In one storyline, Marian Brook is humiliated when she sneaks off to
elope with the lawyer, Tom Raikes, but he doesn't bother to show. This
storyline was poorly handled IMO, as they tried to have their cake and
eat it too - it would have been much stronger if they'd just stuck with
portraying Raikes as a cold, calculating social climber, through and
through. Them trying to pretend like Raikes actually cared about Marian
didn't work at all.
In another storyline, Peggy Scott's mother (Audra McDonald)
discovers a letter in Peggy's father's coat that confirms Peggy's child
is still alive. They both defy Mr. Scott and go off to Philadelphia to
find the child.
In the main storyline, Gladys Russell's ball will be held
imminently! But after Bertha Russell tries to call on Mrs. Astor and is
snubbed, Bertha disinvites Carrie Astor and all the other children of
the "old" that continue to snub her. This enrages Carrie Astor, and
ultimately forces Mrs. Astor to call upon Bertha, where Bertha turns
the screws to Astor, and coerces her into attending Gladys' ball
herself, and force all her friends, including Agnes van Rhijn and Ada
Brook! into going to the ball too! (Seperately, George Russell uses
business to coerce yet another "old money" couple into attending the
ball!)
Ultimately, everyone shows up to the ball, even the spurned Marian
Brook. And Oscar van Rhijn continues his scheme to woo Gladys.
A bunch of secondary cast are getting kicked up to main cast in
season #2, including Donna Murphy as Mrs. Astor, but I have no idea how
that will work without her daughter Carrie Astor - I've got to think
they'll try to get Amy Forsyth back for an episode or two, or they'll
be forced to recast Carrie Astor...
Anyway, now looking forward to season #2 of this one.

soaps: DOOL - [sigh...] They've already brought Jan Spears back - I was
really hoping they would give that character a rest for a while after
her last stint. :| Anyways, with the DNA test having confirmed that
he is the father, Evan Frears repossesses the baby from Shawn, but is
then confronted by Jan Spears at the docks, who takes the baby, and
then clunks Evan into the harbor! (Is Evan dead?! - I doubt it!!)
Meanwhile, Dr. Rolf plans to use dead Jake DiMera's heart and
transplant it into Stefan DiMera to complete Stefan's revival!! Also,
Gabi admits her scheme about Ava Vitali's faked marriage to Jake to
Shin the Younger. And a suspicious EJ invites Ava to the DiMera mansion
to live, and Ava accepts!
GH - Cameron fills Joss in on Spencer's (failed!) "long game" to try
to take down Esme. Trina and Rory the cop talk about her trial
testimony. Nikolas and Ava fail to find Esme (or her tiny little
body!), and Nikolas vows to protect Ava, even though Ava doesn't
forgive him for f***ing Esme!! There was also a whole subplot with
Sasha, but I don't care!!

Planning on Forever (recorded off UP tv) - UP tv triffle starring the
super-cute Emily Tennant as a corporate event planner (who secretly
wants to be a wedding planner) who, as maid of honor, is drafted (due
to contrivances!) by her sister and her prospective brother-in-law into
being a "wedding stand-in", along with the best man who is also a
former blind date of Tennant's character. Bascially, she and the former
blind date end up having to plan most of the wedding for her sister
plus groom themselves.
This is absolutely nothing we haven't seen before, but Emily Tennant
is one of those people who is so darn likeable that she can make this
cliche stuff palatable.

Paper Girls (Prime) - Ep's #4-6.
Some developments here!
The girls think they finally have a way to get back to 1988, but
instead they get stuck in 1999(!), where their future selves are just
out of college. So, in '99, we get a look at grad student KJ - and
there's a "revelation" here that was blindingly obvious in earlier
episodes - and spend a lot of time with college dropout Tiff(any), whom
"lil' Tiff" disapproves of even more than Erin disapproved of sad-sack
"adult Erin".
Meanwhile, Mac lies to Erin about her future self, but ends up
admiting the truth to KJ after they have a fight.
The girls are also forced to learn about tampons upon arriving in
'99!! in a fairly amusing scene.
These episodes were somewhat lighter on the "future war" stuff, as
the bad guys don't seem to know the girls are in 1999.
Just two episdoes to go - hard to see how this gets wrapped up in
just 2 episodes. I'm wondering if they don't get back to 1988 before
the end...

I *almost* watched this last night. But holding off until I finish some
other stuff.

I watched:

The Marksman (Netflix rental) 2021 action drama starring Liam Neeson as
a former soldier who now runs a failing ranch. One day while driving
past the border he encounters a woman and her young son trying to sneak
across the border From Mexico into the U.S. He stops them at the border
to call the police, but as it turns out they are on the run from the a
Mexican drug cartel who are hot on their tale. The cartel shows up
while Neeson is detaining the family and wind up in a shootout with the
mom getting hit. Neeson feels responsible for the mom's death and
decides to protect the boy from the gangsters that are still after them
while taking him cross country to family in Chicago. It's an OK movie.

Made in Italy (TMC) 2020 drama starring Liam Neeson as an artist who
travels to Italy to help his son sale their family home. The mother
died years earlier and the two have been estranged ever since. Now that
they are together to fix up and sale the house, lots of melodrama
ensues. I guess it was OK. It was written and directed by James D'Arcy
who played the human "Jarvis" in the MCU. I had this on my DVR for a
while and figured this was the best time to watch.

The Orville (Hulu) "Future Unknown" - Season (Series?) finale. This
works as sort of an epilogue with all the action having happened
throughout the season things settle down on the ship with the crew
getting together for a wedding. I could have sworn I heard a certain
wedding speech on another show... This episode also serves as a sequel
to an earlier episode from a previous season. Thanks to a surprise
cameo along with the overall melancholy mood of the episode, it really
started to feel like it was written to be a series finale. On the other
hand, I'm glad the show didn't go out on a cliffhanger.

For a movie called THE MARKSMAN, there was precious little marksmanship
on display.

I watched this a few weeks ago. I think I liked this more than you did.
(My main complaint was "not enough Katheryn Winnick"!!)

> The Orville (Hulu) "Future Unknown" - Season (Series?) finale.

My plan is to tackle "Motherland: Fort Salem" tonight, and get to this
tomorrow (Fri.) night.

And I think I will finally be able to tackle "Westworld" season #4 in
mid-August...

It's also not a "Liam Neeson revenge flick", which is my main genre of
choice!! ;)
