Once again: "...helped bring on the changes as well" connotes specific changes that had previously been discussed.

That's what the words mean.

But Zod's statement was not intended to apply to the previously mentioned changes (the switch from Traditional to Modernist poetry), but to recent changes that had not yet been mentioned.

He should have written something along the lines of: "Rhyme and Meter have made something of a comeback in the forms of modern day Hip-hop and Rap."

Again, words matter.

Learn how to use them correctly.

Insisting that poorly written sentences are correct will not help to improve you as a writer.
