A couple of reasons one might logically do that: 1) it's a courtesy to
let potential responders know that's what you're doing, and 2)
actually I can't think of another logical reason for it.

Amateur historian (though some university courses) 25 years in
soc.history.what-if,, Editor? well not really but I've been national
secretary of the Chess Federation of Canada (you are welcome to verify
that on chess.ca) and responsible for organizing their online meetings
these last 10-12 years, Entrepreneur? I ran our family business from
1987 till last fall and am recently retired (alas not recently enough
since the exit deal was 8 months in the making and only completed 2
months after my wife's passing), never did have Secret Service
training though 30 years ago my boss was ex Canadian armor corps, and
didn't catch Covid though my daughter had the full meal deal genuine

On the other hand, I'm not bat-shit crazy so maybe I don't have so
much in cmmon with FPP after all. (Only crazy thing I've done recently
was drinking way too much on my late wife's birthday - first one
without her in nearly 40 years. Cried myself silly listening to
various songs she would have liked for most of that particular
evening)

On the yet other hand I've watched all 42 seasons of Survivor so maybe
I am crazy after all.

Yes but you can have perfectly balanced reviews but still give a
strong slant based on WHICH books you choose to review. (Or not)

Our local paper drives me crazy as they really haven't reviewed
anything that wasn't at least half way woke and enough of these
reviews are positive the message is clear. Nothing wrong with the
review as a review but it's too many of the same kind of book in their
reviews with insufficient variety.
