Here's a story I hadn't expected to see: the Japanese government is
looking for suggestions to help convince young people to drink more alcohol.

In an era where paternalism is rampant and the nanny state rages against
any number of behaviours, I hadn't expected any government to go against
the grain in this way and actually encourage boozing. But the bottom
line is the bottom line and the Japanese government is seeing a major
hit on their tax revenues with the reduction in alcohol consumption.

I remember various lobbying groups railing AGAINST alcohol advertising
for EXACTLY that reason: the ads seemed to promise that if you drank
(and served) such-and-such beer or whisky, the opposite sex would find
you more attractive and make it more likely that you got lucky....

Well yeah - by all means enjoy their product if you like how it
tastes, but if nookie is your prime objective then there are better
ways than overconsumption.....

Unless you have a time machine, I'm not sure that ad is going to be all
that persuasive. The woman is 76 years old at this point and presumably
