I'm not rewatching it but what with Queen Elizabeth's death, I was
thinking about this movie.

In her first starring role in a major Hollywood motion picture, Audrey
Hepburn plays Princess Ann, next in line of succession to a tiny central
European (I guess) country that's too small to have ever invaded its
neighbors. She's utterly charming and delightful. The movie was
nominated for 10 Oscars and won three. Hepburn won for Best Actress;
Dalton Trumbo, at the height of the blacklist, would have won if he'd
been credited for one of the writing awards. Edith Head won for
costumes.

Not every member of a royal family is charming and delightful.
Generally, they're the most evil, vile people imaginable, eager to throw
their own subjects to the wolves in invading other countries and
presiding over the bloodiest possible civil wars because their changing
the form of Christian devotion back to the way it was under a previous
monarch, who had also forced conversion in a bloody civil war.

Movies about Nicholas and Alexandra emphasize the love and romance and
forget the anti-Jewish pogroms all stirred up by the Tsar.

Just how good a king was Good King Wenceslas? He still forced his
servant to carry on the struggle, just told the guy to walk in the
king's footsteps. Did the King let him wear his ermine or carry half of
the load?

The monarch of every country at war in Europe during WWI was a
grandchild of Queen Victoria.
