Last time they did this, Oprah stopped using the city water to maintain the
lush greenery on her vast estate in Montecito. She started paying for one of
those tanker trucks-- the kind that brings gas to gas stations-- full of water

The water authority about shit itself in outrage but there's nothing illegal
about buying water and having it shipped to your home, so there was nothing
they could do about it. And since the water wasn't coming from the city's
supply-- or even the state's water reserves-- they couldn't even rely on their
standard socialist argument about her "taking more than her fair share". As
far as the city's supply was concerned, she was actually conserving more than
any other home because she'd reduced the amount she took from the city for her
lawns to zero.

The Kardashians did something similar with regard to forest fires. They hired
a private company of fire fighters to protect their homes during the last wave
of fires. The rest of the people in their subdivision were outraged when they
realized that if the fire got close, all those trucks and firemen weren't
going to do jack for them and their homes. They didn't work for the city and
were only there to protect the Kardashians.

We had a few state legislators even propose making private fire fighting
illegal because of how unfair it looks. That went nowhere, though.
