The big box home improvement store, where I've never been served by Sam
nor Andi, sells all sorts of oddball stuff. Sometimes they get DVD
remainders. Today's batch was all labeled for sale by Distribution
Solutions, so either this stuff sells or gets dumped.

Ok ok. I picked up a Mill Creek Entertainment set of 20 movies on DVD,
licensed from Sony Pictures for home entertainment. Yes, yes, I know.
They drop the bit rate.

You had me at $4.99.

I've only seen a few of these movies.

Last Action Hero

Universal Soldier The Return

The Russian Specialist (The Mechanik, nothing to do with the Charles
Bronson film or its remake starring Jason Stathum)

Into the Sun

The Stone Killer

Silent Rage

Shamus

The Anderson Tapes (Sean Connery, Dyan Cannon); I think I liked it but
it's not memorable

Attack Force

The Point Men

The Hunt for Eagle One

Walking Tall: Lone Justice (some direct to video crap that has nothing
to do with the original story)

S.W.A.T. (I've never been able to get through this movie)

Basic (I'm so confused!)

Maximum Risk (such a generic title, I have no clue if I've seen this)

Stealth (I rooted for the plane)

The Pact of Silence

In the Cut (director's cut! Does that make the movie better?)

The Quiet

Trapped

On a separate DVD, Hammer of the Gods set in 871 AD. The marketing hype
on the package promises well-choreographed fight scenes and bloody gore.

Also, The Salvation starring Mads Mikkelsen and Eva Green, who smolders
according to the hype. It's a western revenge flick I'd never heard of.
Why is the main character Danish? I have no clue.

Then a pack of Matt Damon flicks, The Adjustment Bureau (there are worse
Philip K. Dick adaptations) and The Good Shepherd, a really really
really long movie that would have worked better as a tv miniseries,
about the early days of the CIA and loosely based on the Angleton
incident. Hey! This one's BluRay! I hadn't actually looked.

Then, I couldn't resist buying the entire package of Bewitched, which
promises that it's as originally broadcast.

Hopefully it’s not 20 movies all on one disc!

How come selling movies on thumb drives never became popular?

That… Wasn’t very good. Arnold was on the late night talk shows selling it
saying how he was in charge of every aspect of production and even designed
the movie poster. They really need to not let him do that again.

> Universal Soldier The Return

There are a lot of those and I can’t keep track of them. Remember back when
we liked Ally Walker?

Good Lord. IMDB search says there are dozens of these things. I have no
idea if they’re all related to the original. I’ve definitely not seen the
return.

I’m guessing that’s Charles Bronson and it’s just chock-full of people who
made careers out of guest starring on TV shows

There’s a bunch of movies by that title. I’m guessing you’ve got the one
with Chuck Norris versus genetic monsters that so bad they did it on
RiffTrax. And there’s a sequel!

I’m guessing that’s Burt Reynolds and Dyan cannon. What can I say? It’s got
Burt Reynolds and Dyan cannon it. I’d watch anything with Burt Reynolds and
Dyan cannon in it.

What can I say? It’s got Sean Connery and Dyan cannon in it. I’d watch

I swear
Dorotea, Vasterbottens Ian, Sweden

Severe violence and gore!

Wow! I had no idea that Sensi ping from the middleman

Now best known as the nephew of the chairman on the version of iron chef
that has a 500 pound pig woman as a judge ever headline the movie!

Direct sequel to walking tall: the payback, this stars Kevin Sorbo and
three hot women, one of which is Yvette Nipar, and I’d watch a movie just
for her. This ended her career.

> S.W.A.T. (I've never been able to get through this movie)

There are a lot of swat movies and I’ve never made my way all the way
through any of them. I’m guessing this is the 1975 classic with the late
great Robert Urich?

I’m guessing this is the 2003 movie with the top notch cast including John
Travolta and Samuel L Jackson?

Wait. You’re complaining about this title being generic when the previous
movie was just named “basic”?
Anyway I’m guessing this is the 1990s version with the chick from species
and moderate nudity. With any luck they’ll overlap.

Hey, it had a babe in it!

Girard dippy Doo and a cast of people with unpronounceable names that are
such low end actors they would appear in a movie with Gerard dippity do.

Women write and direct the useless jackass who plays the Hulk in the marvel
movies with additional writing by Stavros Kazantzidis. The first review
says it’s the greatest performance of meg Ryan’s career and erotic and
still only gives it five stars. Maybe the directors cut has lots of extra
nudity but I doubt it.

OK here are some quotes from the trivia section on IMDb:

The unrated version is notorious for a scene where fellatio is witnessed by
Meg Ryan's character, although it was later revealed in the film commentary
that the actress was using a rubber prop.

According to Reuters, Meg Ryan would have preferred not to do the steamy
sex scenes but put her faith in Jane Campion. Speaking at Toronto Film
Festival, where the movie made its debut, Ryan said: "I think the scenes
are really good though, I think they're very honest. Jane didn't want them
to be coy, so I don't think they are at all. And I love how much dialogue
is in those scenes. That's what makes them really intimate." Ryan said the
scenes were filmed with a minimum of people on the set, and Campion did
everything possible to put her actors at ease, including offering to take
off her own clothes.

The only film that received an "F" CinemaScore from audiences upon its
release in 2003.

The film uses the word "fuck" 55 times.

Frannie (Meg Ryan) spends forty percent of the film in her underwear and
nude.

Detective Malloy (Mark Ruffalo) spends twenty percent of the film nude.

A few seconds after Malloy has removed Frannie's panties, she is still
wearing them (while he fondles her stomach).

They spent $12 million making it and grossed back $5 million.

You need to invite us all over. Movie party!

> The Quiet

I am guessing this is the 2005 movie with those girls that Ian likes that
review say is “extremely disturbing“

There are a lot of movies with this title. This one could be very good or
very very bad.

This may be the only one I’ve seen.

Well, so is the Director. And both writers.

Filmed in South Africa on a $10 million budget and grossed back $44,000.

I liked the adjustment Bureau. I’ve never seen the other one.

So poorly colorized then?

Is this the version where they swap out the husband for a completely
talentless creep and then proceed to remake the same episodes which are
absolutely horrible because of the completely talentless creep?

Enjoy!

Because thumb drives are more expensive and perceived to be too
complicated and "nerdy". Plus when DVDs came out not many TVs had USB
ports to plug them in to.

Robert Urich played Officer Jim Street in S.W.A.T.

I think Robert Urich was in everything back then. BTW I didn't know
until now that his widow, Heather Menzies, died in 2017.

Ah. I've seen this. I always thought is was a lousy remake of The
Yakuza, except looking it up, they rewrote just enough of the script to
avoid paying the fee to license the original script.

Critics say Seagal's dialogue scenes feel like padding (Seagal doing a
single sentence of dialogue would feel that way). One says it's one of
his better movies, I guess for the action, but way to set the bar low.

Oh I actually did watch that within the last month or two. I am not

apparently nobody realized Connery should’ve been playing Tom Sawyer. And

And can you blame them?

Remember the Columbus movie (I think it was) where the other actors would
repeat deputy dues lines after him because they realized nobody could

Is this pre-surgery Meg Ryan or the post-surgery Joker-era Meg Ryan?

Yes. I didn’t go into details but that’s one of the big advantages of the
thumb drive is that it isn’t stuck on the antiquated low quality hi file
size DVD format. I have entire TV series on MP4 H265 on reasonably sized
thumb drives. For whatever reason the plasma has three or four USB ports
on the back.

Yes, for example, Anim8r's fave RuPaul most likely didn't have such surgery.

I'd kind of like to see that even as "extra content" on a DVD. My
mother was at Vancouver's Agridome for the climactic fight but I don't
think I saw her as an extra. Stallone found the actor who played
Gorbachev in a bar when he was in Powell River, BC for a weekend
fishing trip at the start of shooting.
