The pilot episode wasn't good but this one declined in quality. At least
Regina doesn't shoot anybody.

The big brass show up... again. This time there's a hedge fund trader
billionaire who turns up dead in the 74th. For the first few scenes of
the episode, Regina is complaining that her crime stats suck 'cuz the
producers won't hire any extras to make it look like it's a busy police
station. I, um, er, meant their beat cops keep getting yanked for parade
duties.

Somehow this affects detectives, but they've got just the two.

Homicide detectives from Manhattan South show up to grab the
investigation and suddenly Regina finds that she CAN order her two
detectives to investigate the crime.

Jimmy Smits won't make a decision so he decides to have detectives from
both squads work together. Of course, Killian is their rival. Now, the
theory of one detective, that there was a robbery that led to the
homicide near Wall Street, and the body was dumped, sure makes a lot of
sense.

Here's a thought: The Manhattan detectives could run down leads in
Manhattan, and the Brooklyn detectives could run down leads in Brooklyn.
Instead, the Manhattan detectives just base themselves at the 74th and
do nothing at all.

Oddly, Det. Killian faces no consequences for felony grand larceny he
committed in the pilot.

A boy in the ghetto (In the Ghetto) was killed. No leads are pursued.
The father is upset and, it turns out, in a homicidal rage. Officer
Quinlan is told to run down leads, off book. Hey! Regina won't have to
justify overtime!

We ignore the 13th amendment violation and the irony of a black woman
fighting for justice screwing over a white woman.

Richard Kind notices pictures of the kid doing card tricks and immediately
guesses that he was murdered because of a fight at a dice game in which
he was accused of cheating.

Of course, with no investigation at all, this theory is proven.

There's an old woman who is furious that she's getting lousy care from
her care giver and somehow knows why the boy was killed. Well, the
murderer is living in her apartment against her will. She gives
permission to have the apartment searched. I assume the murder weapon
was found.

Regina decides it's a really good idea to complain to the New York Times
that dead wealthy people are worth more than dead kids in the ghetto (In
the Ghetto).

Duh. That would be a newspaper headline? Give me a break.

Jimmy Smits has the story killed to keep her from being fired.

Reminds me, it does, that somehow or other
I only bumped into this Elvis Presly song
a couple of weeks ago, after missing it entirely
for, well, justabout forever:

(when I heard it I initially thought it was Johny Cash)
