MeTV is one of the pseudo networks which sends out
feeds of programs through the cable/tv systems. Their
primary focus is, let's simply say, oldies but goodies.

So, for example, Gunsmoke, Wagon Train, The Adventures
of Superman...

And on Sunday mornings, The Flintstones.

A bit of a niche market but it's a pleasant
enough time waster.

And yes, they annoyingly (VERY annoyingly) clip out
five or ten minutes out of every hour to insert
more commercials, and snip out words they don't
like [a], and even dropped entire episodes.

But now... I'm watching The Flinstones, first
season... and.. the ending portion with all
the credits, etc., has Bam Bam and Pebbles
in it.

Yet these two kids didn't arrive until much
later in the series.

In other words, MeTV clipped off the original,
season one, endings and.. replaced them with
the later versions.

That would rank right down there with using
the revised versions of the Mary Tyler Moore
intro song (i.e. "you're gonna make it after all")
in the first season..

[expletive deleteds] !

[a] incorporating by reference my earlier rants
about how they also edit the closed captions so
words like "despicable" become "DEXXXXABLE".

(The captions are all upper case).

I've never seen it, but I've heard that MeTV chops off
the top and bottom of it's shows for fake widescreen;
if that is acceptable then so is chopping the rest of
the show. So the outrage of MeTV begins with their
butchery of the picture, and if that bad engineering
passes, it's bound to get worse.

I am pretty sure that's standard practice for syndicated shows.

It's not "quite" that horrible. I'm looking at
a Perry Mason episode right not and... it's got
black bars ("letterboxing") on the sides.

HOWEVER, they're about half the width they "should be".

So it looks like MeTV is doing a roughly 1/2 "expansion",
for want of a better term. So yes, some top and bottom
is "off the screen", but not as messed up as with some
of the other folk.

(Of course I'd much rather a full letterbox, etc. But
I'd also like calorie free seven layer cake..)

Letterboxing is black bars on the top and bottom on a widescreen TV or
on a widescreen image on a 4x3 TV. Black bars on a widescreen TV on the
sides is just a standard 4x3 aspect ratio that was the accepted format
for TV for 50 years or so. I still can't believe how much
misinformation shows up on this group.

MeTV seems to be slightly squishing, cropping off the top and bottom, and
putting pillar boxes on the left and right, in a desperate attempt to
offend absolutely everybody.

There's the conspiracy theory that TV companies degrade
their programming on purpose to make the commercials look
better. MeTV is also doing that with it's content.
