Right here, in this group, I would rank Dockery on the bottom rung of poetry,
the bottom rung of vocals, the bottom rung of his so-called art and with that said, his finger pointing on anything is null and void.

I consider this Columbus mash up of vagrants, thugs and pretend artists, on the bottom rung of everything the arts are supposed to be about.

Take your pretend artistry and shove it up you filthy ass.

Latching onto anything artistic to validate your worthless self, is a sham. You have created the make-believe world of YOU.

You fail in your pretend world.

"Well, I've gone black and did come back. The black women I've had sex
with have been very exciting... there's that element of interest,
slightly different muscle tone and genital make up, that's hard to
describe in a family oriented group... it is a very tasty treat
indeed..."

According to Michael Pendragon, apostrophes "don't matter".

It's actually a Stan Jones song -- quite possibly the greatest song ever written.

Vaughn Monroe has been one of my favorite singers since childhood, and his version (actually versions) of (Ghost) Riders in the Sky is the one I grew up with.

I have 27 different recordings of (Ghost) Riders in my ilibrary, and have listened to about 150 versions over the years. Vaughn Monroe's version was by far the biggest hit and is my second favorite version after Laine's.

I first heard Frankie Laine's recording about 20 years ago, and have come to prefer it, as the horns in the orchestration by John Williams lend the song a hot, gritty, hellish quality that the various other versions fail to capture. Vaughn Monroe's version has a slightly ominous tone to it, and the Sons of the Pioneers version has an eerie feeling to it, but Williams' arrangement is incomparable. He also has the choral voices in one track singing slightly out of synch with those on the other -- which gives it a disturbing feeling almost on a subliminal level (you have to listen to it with earphones to appreciate it).

Here's a passage on it from "Music! Music! Music!" by MMP:

Vaughn Monroe continued expanding the boundaries of narrative song with his recording of Stan Jones' classic "Cowboy Legend," (Ghost) Riders in the Sky. One of the grandest songs ever penned, (Ghost) Riders has been continually revived over the years in new versions by artists as diverse as The Sons of the Pioneers, Bing Crosby, Frankie Laine, Peggy Lee, Kay Starr, Duane Eddy, The Outlaws, The Ventures, Lorne Greene, The Blues Brothers, Marty Robbins and there's even a spoken version by character actor Walter Brennan.
The legend, writ big as the western sky itself, tells how an "old cowpoke" witnessed a Hellish vision "one dark and windy day." A herd of demonic cattle with eternally burning brands is forever being driven across the endless skies by the Damned souls of gaunt-faced, bleary-eyed cowboys, who warn the old man to change his ways lest he end up as they. It's a haunting song that, once heard, is not easily forgotten.
Stan Jones was inspired to write the lyric from an incident that occurred in his youth. It began when Jones was working at the Slaughter Ranch in Cochise County, Southern Arizona. There, while riding the Geronimo trail one afternoon in 1926, along with an old cowpoke named "Cap Watts," he noticed that a storm was brewing on the horizon. As they rushed to tie down the blades of a windmill to protect them from the rising wind, Cap pointed to some fast-moving storm clouds overhead and identified them as "ghost riders." Ghost riders are a well-known superstition out in the cattle country of the American west. Comprising ominous looking silhouetted clouds backlit with yellow and sun-red accents, they are said to look like a line of riders racing across the ragged skies. They are considered to be bad omens as they often signal tornadoes.
Cap proceeded to tell the wide-eyed twelve-year old boy the macabre legend behind the eerie natural phenomenon. The old cowpoke finished his tale by issuing the boy a warning that if he failed to keep to the straight and narrow road, he too might end up chasing the devil's cattle with hellfire and lightning bolts. At the story's end, the frightened boy jumped on his horse and raced back home as though the devil himself was on his tail.
The song is subtitled "A Cowboy Legend," but its traditions can be traced as far back as the fifth century, B.C., when rushing storm clouds were said to be the witch-goddess Hecate at the head of a band of phantom riders. The cowboy variant is said to have sprung from a particularly vicious episode in the range war between the cattlemen and homesteaders that enveloped the west in the 1870's. According to the legend, a rancher named "Sawyer," was driving a massive herd of cattle to the market. He inadvertently picked up a homesteader's cattle herd while crossing the latter's land. The squatter pursued the cattleman, and demanded that his cattle be returned. Sawyer ran him off at gunpoint, but before he left, he threatened that if his cattle weren't returned by nightfall, he would stampede the entire herd.
That night Sawyer rested the herd on the top of a mesa, an outcropping of land with a steep drop on the southern side, which made it a natural barrier against predators. Unfortunately, it also served the purposes of the angry homesteader, who slipped past the guard that Sawyer had set, and waving a blanket and firing his gun, drove the frightened herd over the embankment's edge to their death. Two of Sawyer's men were also killed in the stampede. The following day, Sawyer tracked the homesteader down and exacted a grisly revenge. He tied the squatter to his horse with a rawhide lariat, and drove the blindfolded animal off the same cliff that had claimed much of his herd the night before.
Stan Jones never forgot the cowpoke's story, and on his thirty-fourth birthday, he decided to set it to music. After the Second World War, Stan, now working as a forest ranger, was heard singing the song and told that he should try to get it recorded. He no sooner got the song published than it was picked up by singing cowboy Gene Autry as the theme for a motion picture.. Folk singer Burl Ives was the first to cut a record of it, but it was Vaughn Monroe's version that became one of the biggest hit records of all time -- staying on the charts for a total of twenty-two weeks, nine of them at the number one position.
An interesting side note is that real life cowboys reportedly didn't use the colorful "yippee-yi-ay" calls employed in the song's chorus. This and other supposed cowboyisms like "hi-yi" and "ti-yi-yippee-ay-oh" were the invention of Tin Pan Alley songwriters. It was the singing cowboys of the silver screen, like Autry, Roy Rogers and Tex Ritter, who had popularized them..

Did Will Dockery and General Zod hear about the ceasefire while they kept bumping George Dance's attack poem thread on Robert Burrows, even after they drove Mr Burrows away, they kept gloating by bumping the thread, asking where he was and hoping he would come back, when they knew he left because of them.

We didn't specify women either. The volunteers so far have been Donkey, Sulzbach and Jordy's Uncle.

>
>
>
He no sooner got the song published than it was picked up by singing cowboy Gene Autry as the theme for a motion picture.
It was the singing cowboys of the silver screen, like Autry, Roy Rogers and Tex Ritter, who had popularized them.
>

Thanks. That was a wonderful story to read. My only regret is that it's
not on the thread with the different versions of the song, where I think
it would be noticed more.

At one point, I had more than one a week offering to "friend" me. It's
died down a bit, but now that I'm picking up followers on Twitter, I'm
starting to attract some of those there as well.

I don't think he left over that. If you remember, he responded with a
poem about my cock being too small for him. :) More likely, it was the
group dump on Bob Dylan -- I know that was done to embarrass Will, as
he's a big Dylan fan, but there's no bigger Dylan fan here than Burrows.

That said, he's never been a regular, and comes and goes a lot. While I
don't consider him a group troll, just because he isn't a group regular,
he is Jim Senetto's BOFF (in the same way, eg, that Cujo is PJ Ross's
BOFF), so I'm sure he'll return when Senetto summons him again.

What are you spewing, now, Donkey?

Jim hasn't attacked either of the Georges in this thread.

Michael Pendragon

We all know Robert comes and goes often, I expect he'll be back.
