They might do something less bloody about him but, yeah, he's gone.

I have no idea who might be on deck.

How about that real cool Sergey Labrov? Hopefully they'll both get
shitcanned as a package deal.

I can't imagine anybody truly being on deck. If we've thought about it,
Putin's thought about it a long time ago. He must have an enormous
palace guard, and I bet they all are driven by a combination of carrots
(most likely money) and sticks (most likely vulnerable family). They're
not going to turn on him. The long table wasn't about COVID. Anyone
wanting to make a move on him has to cross a long distance to do it,
during which time they're easy targets. The only source of a genuine
threat would be the armed forces, the same armed forces that are
currently being debilitated by the war that Putin is waging.

That reminds me. I can recommend the darkly comedic film _The Death of
Stalin_, about the scramble for power in the wake of the dictator's
passing. Featuring Steve Buscemi as Nikita Khrushchev, Paddy Considine,
Michael Palin as Vyacheslav Molotov, Jeffrey Tambor, and oh, just wait
for Jason Isaacs' entrance.

Sure, so the "food tasters" would taste a microscopic amount of Polonium
in his food? Bullshit.

Yes! Everybody should see The Death of Stalin. I found it by accident
a few years ago, and I've watched it four or five times since.

"Well, that's got it done."

You overestimate the CIA's capability. In general though, the CIA has
been less inclined to directly try to kill national leaders than to lend
encouragement and assistance to internal plots to kill national leaders.
It would after all, be difficult to extract an non-national assassin
after the attempt and it would be bad if an American was caught after
assassinating a national leader. The CIA is more into kidnapping and
torturing less well protected people.

My daughter (History / Russian honors grad) brought home that flick
and initially I was dubious since like my daughter I knew the
immediate history following Stalin's death and didn't see how comedic
actors could play it for laughs but no question I consider it one of
the top flicks of the past decade.

Contrary to what I expected with that theme they played the history
fairly close to reality.

Everybody should see The Death of Stalin. It's brilliant, and Buscemi
is a standout among standouts. I wish this film were better-known. It
deserves to be.
