I've been enjoying it as well. The first two of six episodes have been
broadcast. Lesley Manville has been doing a good job and they aren't
doing too bad a job of keeping the contemporary story separate from the
novel. I got a kick out of the murdered author pissing off everyone he
knows with an unflattering fictional counterpart in the novel.

I couldn't figure out why I recognized Matthew Beard, who played the
suck-up kept younger man and the obsequious driver to Pund in the novel.

Sure, Magpie Murders ain't no Endeavour but it was still pretty good.

Nowadays, I judge tv shows by how quickly I "marathon" a season and
if I find myself FF thru boring parts and with Magpie Murders, I was
watching 2 episodes per night and didn't FF thru any of it.

On the other hand, I started watching S02 of Gangs of London and only
watched three episodes over five days and have FF thru overly long
action scenes that (at least for me) don't add anything to the story.
