Former Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers said that policy makers in the US and elsewhere should heed the fiscal lessons from the UK’s recent crisis, and not assume Britain’s troubles were unique.

“That would be a real mistake” to conclude that other countries wouldn’t end up confronting similar challenges. The first lesson from the UK is “that things can change extraordinarily fast.”

Outgoing UK Prime Minister Liz Truss abandoned a program of unfunded tax cuts after its unveiling prompted a destabilizing selloff in UK government bonds.

Inflation is at risk of getting fresh impetus from a spike in oil prices, the former Treasury chief also said. He worried over US “confrontation” with what he described as a “Russian-Saudi axis.”

UK pension funds didn't have days or a couple of weeks. If the UK gov had NOT stepped in to shore up the pension funds they would have collapsed by the end of the day.
