Circulation 10,000 copies a month for almost twenty years.

My monthly column and poetry in every issue for nearly twenty years.

Again, who here can top that?

Anyone who's had one poem published in a small press/indie *poetry* zine with a circulation of 100 copies.

My poetry and stories that appeared in various small press publications were read by 100s (perhaps 1,000s) of my fellow writers.

Your poetry/column was skipped over by 10s of 1,000s of visitors to Columbus who were looking for a place to eat.

But no one read your column, Donkey.

Your column was filler for a bunch of local ads.

No one read it.

The point is that it doesn't matter how many copies of your poem are circulated. What matters is who they're circulated to.

Having your poem read by 10 of your fellow writers is far more significant than having it skipped over by half a million hungry businessmen stuck in Columbus for a night.

Again, you flatter yourself, and you glorify your small press days. I was involved in small press myself, and edited a poetry and art zine for years (which was listed in Poet's Market during the mid-1990s), so I know that scene well, also.

You never broke out of the local market, Donkey.

You were the dumbass, wannabe who put out a xeroxed "magazine" featuring the work of his friends (and himself, of course).

Your small press "career" was no more impressive than any of your other "accomplishments."

Why should I care?

I'm just stating facts. People look at listings papers because they want to see where they can eat/drink in a strange city.

They don't look at them to read a "column" by some imbecile who cannot write in complete sentences.

I'm sure they drummed up a lot of business for the local restaurants.

You're delusional, Donkey.

If you had that many readers, you'd have had a large enough fan base to have your collected works published by someone other than George Dance.

And like I said, no real writer would boast about having written a column in a local listings paper.

It's a step below having written for one's high school paper (we cut children who are aspiring to be writers a lot more slack in that regard).

You've never been published in any legitimate forum.

You don't have a job, live in a shed, are untalented, morbidly obese, inadequately educated, functionally illiterate, fugly as sin, and just plain stupid.

You have nothing for anyone to be jealous of.

Nothing.

.... Nothing.

....Absolutely nothing.

Deal with it.

(I hear rope is cheap.)

Again, Playgrounds Magazine had a circulation of 10,000 copies a month for almost twenty years.

My monthly column and poetry in every issue for nearly twenty years.

Who here can top that?

Certainly not Michael Pendragon and his Xeroxed small press zines with their 10 copy print runs.

HTH and HAND.

Why do you lie so much, Donkey?

My poetry magazines were professionally printed, perfectbound, card cover, and approximately 200 pages.

Each had a print run of 500 copies, and over 200 subscribers.

They published authors from the US, Canada, England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, South Africa, India, and Australia.

That's great to see that you made an effort to help other poets out of obscurity.

Still, I published my monthly poems and columns at 10,000 copies a month, so in one month my circulation exceeded yours for your entire publication history.

And I was published monthly at 10,000 copies for nearly twenty years... stop whining about it and get over it, Pendragon.

Yes, I'm sure Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky's career got a big boost from my having published him.

Could you be any more ignorant?

And your column was read by your fellow local mendicants and karaoke performers.

Kudos.

As many as 10,000 readers every month for nearly twenty years.

Yes, that's a lot of readers, unlike your small press pamphlets with print runs of maybe fifty copies.

And so it goes.

My magazines had print runs of 500 copies, Donkey. Try reading my posts before responding.

My magazines published (and were read by) established writers on five continents.

"Playgrounds," otoh, was a local listings paper.

No real writer would think of listing in among their credits.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but sometimes truth hurts.

Michael Pendragon
"Well, I've gone black and did come back. The black women I've had sex
with have been very exciting... there's that element of interest,
slightly different muscle tone and genital make up, that's hard to
describe in a family oriented group... it is a very tasty treat
indeed..."
-- Will Dockery, the man who went black and came back.

Yes, the magazine was a great venue for artists.

No, the magazine was a great local venue for local artists.

It was also a great local venue for local businesses to advertise in.

However, its circulation and, therefore, influence did not extend beyond the city whose businesses it advertised.

Anyone here who had a single poem appear in a nationally/internationally circulated literary magazine, regardless of it's print run/circulation, has topped you.

You had a column in a local listings paper; you hosted a local public access tv show and appeared in a local commercial for a local car dealer; you performed in local bars and local concerts; you even won a local award given by a local paper to locals in various local professions. In fact, apart from a brief sojourn in nearby Florida, you appear to have spent your entire life in the (local) Columbus/Atlanta area. In short, you're strictly a local act.
