LAS VEGAS S01E05 “Groundhog Summer“ on COZI

And we have the first appearance of the magic cameras

It’s unclear if these cameras were in the Montecito or at a club elsewhere.
They follow Delinda around the room (wouldn’t you?). At the bar in a shot
that covers at least 10 feet vertically where she is, a would be date
rapist drops something in her drink. They call to zoom in and enhance! And
they zoom in so damn far they can read the engraving on the tiny pills in
mid fall and find out what kind of drug she’s been slipped.

It doesn’t quite outdo the sequin on a pasty but I am thinking it may come
in second!

Turns out it was in the Montecito, it was Mystique, Delinda’s new
nightclub. But they were running the old cameras which Ed quickly
rectified. Even more hysterically they’re apparently recording to VHS tape!

If you haven't heard it yet you probably won't. My very vague
recollection is that it was in the first episode when Duhamel's
character had just been hired and was being shown the surveillance room.
Or at least when _someone_ new was being shown that room.

BTW they seem to have ret conned Danny being a new hire and he’s now known
Ed for years. Mike is still a valet but they started calling him in when
extensive computer knowledge is needed. They’ve started slipping up on Sam
as well and and forgetting that the first time we ever saw her was the
first episode. Same with Nyssa who knows more about annual traditions than
the others even though she just started as well.

Danny was never a new hire. In the very first episode they made a
point of Ed's wife wanting to meet Danny for a long time but Ed
wouldn't do it because Ed wanted to keep Danny to himself. So Danny
had obviously been working for Ed long enough to have truly earned his
trust. Something that wasn't going to happen overnight. As for Mike
they didn't push him as a computer expert but did set him up as an
engineering genius in the first episode. His expertise was as
mechanical engineer.

(Yes, I went and looked at the first episode early this morning to see
if they had the line about casinos having toys the government couldn't
afford. It wasn't there.)

There's something in women's genetic code that causes them to chop off
all their hair once they reach a certain age. It's like the salmon
returning to from sea to their home stream to spawn-- it's inevitable.

The counter-argument is Janine Turner on Northern Exposure who looked
great with that very short haircut, then didn't look as good letting her
hair grow out in later seasons.

Felicity, of course, was way too young to bob her hair in support of

I get why they might do it once they start having kids as the women
are usually going to end up doing the bulk of the child care even if
they have full time jobs. So a shorter hair cut that is easier to look
after makes sense. For the rest of the women.. No clue why they feel
the need to lose part of their hair as they age.

Most women's hair thins as they age. It's not usually all in one spot
as with male baldness, but a generalized reduction in overall living
follicles. When that happens, it may not immediately be evident by
looking at the head, but if the woman continues to grow her hair out
long, the inevitable breakage will make the ends straggly and sad
looking, not full and lush like it used to look. Women in entertainment
may resort to extensions or other hairpieces to make it continue to look
thick, but most women in the real world give up at that point and cut it
to a length that doesn't look straggly.

There's a haircut that some women turn to in mid-life that kind of
feathers the ends around mid-length to try to make it look like the
straggliness is deliberate, not the result of age-related thinning, but
it doesn't look any better than age-related thinning to my eyes.

I think Mariska Hargitay tried something like this briefly, but then
went in a different direction. She started with really thick hair, so
it still doesn't look thin now, but there's less of it than there used
to be.
