That's always the risk in such a plot. Of course the real problem is
in buying every possible number because there's just so many
combinations it would take years even if you had a huge number of
people buying tickets for them (and ignoring the costs of employing so
many people.)

There are a couple of problems with the scenario anyway.

a) Powerball tickets are $2 each now, not $1, so double
the cost of your "investment"

2) If you don't choose to take the payout over a three
decade long period, you lose roughly half of the payout
by taking it as an immediate lump sum.

c) Don't forget to figure in the tax hit for either
payout option.

If you're happy with "investing" ~$600 million for an
immediate payout of ~$300 after taxes, go for it.

Well this is why while I have nothing but scorn about schemes to
improve your chances to choose 6 winning numbers (since these schemes
defy mathematics) I have plenty of faith in schemes purporting to give
you 6 different numbers that numerous people won't also pick. This of
course touches on psychology.

The 6 numbers 1-2-3-4-5-6 have the same chance of being the winning 6
numbers as any other combo but you'd be a fool to pick them since if
they WERE to win, you'd be splitting the $$$$ a gazillion ways simply
due to human psychology.
