Yes, it's the same.

Penny's Hat was originally Betty's Hat. But Betty had stolen it from Batty, and when Betty's theft was brought to light, she changed her name in an attempt to escape justice.

Betty (a.k.a. Penny) has a *lot* of lines in her poem, simply because each line is almost exactly the same as those coming before and after it. All George needed to do was to replace a single word (denoting a color) in each. Basically:

Betty's hat isn't blue,
Betty's hat isn't red,
Betty's hat isn't green,
Betty's hat isn't puce,
Betty's hat isn't chartreuse,
Betty's hat isn't magenta,
ad infinitum.

IOW: It's not the sort of poem that would require 600 years to write.

We thank Dil Salameh who, in a cultural exchange of information, sent us the full version of "Penny, or Penny's Hat" (aka "Betty's Hat"). The poem is divided alphabetically on the colors or features of the hat. Not all of the lines are about colors, although we did wonder what color "Jordy Blue" is.

The full poem contains 3123 lines, so the multi-authored "Ode to My Sock-puppet" has surpassed "Penny" in both length and quality (duh).
