We were listening to 70s on 7 on SiriusXM today, and Led Zeppelin's "Black Dog" came on. Coincidentally, Dr. Darren Naish recently posted an informative essay on "Legend of the Black Dog" on his "Tetrapod Zoology blog.
https://tetzoo.com/blog/2022/8/13/legend-of-the-black-dog

We wondered if some of the lyrics to L.Z.'s song were related to the legends about the "Black Dog." We see in the lyrics: "Eyes that shine, burnin' red," and the fearsome "Black Dog" is similarly described: "The eyes are often said to be strikingly large, and to glow, usually red." (from Tetrapod Zoology)

Since L.Z. is a British band, they must have been very familiar with the canine folklore.

I'm guessing that L.Z.'s song is related to a specific, American legend that has its roots in the European folklore: according to the legend, blues singer-songwriter Robert Johnson sold his soul to be the best guitar player who ever lived. The contract was to last for ten years, at the end of which, his soul would be dragged off Hell. Little is known about Johnson's actual death, or its causes, but he died at the age of twenty-seven. According to the legend, he was hallucinating that he was being chased by "big black dogs" (Hellhounds that had come to collect his soul).

I hallucinate that I'm being chased by big black dicks. They want me to take medicine for this, but I tell them, "HELL NO!!!!"

We will avoid that crossroads in Mississippi. Your comment is probably the reason that L.Z. titled their song "Black Dog," since they were such fans of Johnson. Obviously the Devil never went down to Georgia.
