This week is kind of the big final "push" to wrap most things up at
work, so I only got through:

World Cup - Ghana manages to beat Ecuador, to advance!!
The U.S.-Iran match was a nail-biter! - The U.S. managed to score
just before the half, and then had to defend their 1-0 lead the rest of
the way!... Two concerns here: 1) two key players, including star
Christian Pulisic, got injured in this game - if they can't play in the
knockout round, then... [gulp], 2) once again, the U.S. shows

soaps: DOOL - Wendy and Johnny go to confront Li and EJ, respectively -
EJ tells Johnny that Susan Banks is "dead", and that Ava was
responsible, and Johnny still confronts EJ about the brainwashing. So
both Li and EJ know that Wendy and Johnny know. EJ is still being
tortured by nightmares of Ava!... Jada "informs" Eric that she had an
abortion (I guess when he finds out Nicole is the one that convinced
Jada, they will be through!!).

I put a random selection of X-Mas movies on in the background while I
did some end-of-the-semester grading - "A Royal Christmas on Ice"
(2022, with Anna Marie Dobbins) on the GAFfe Channel, "Christmas in the
Pines" (2021, with Jillian Murray, who didn't look so hot here) on UP
tv, and "Mistletoe & Menorahs" (2019, with Kelley Jackle and Jake
Epstein - I've actually seen this one before) on Lifetime.

I watched:

The Girl Next Door (Netflix disc rental) 2007 horror movie that's based
on the novel by Jack Ketchum of the same name, which since it is based
on true events which makes it even more horrific. Set in the late 1950s
a teenage girl (Blythe Auffarth) and her young sister go to live with
her aunt (Blanche Baker) and cousins after their parents are killed. She
befriends the boy (Daniel Manche) who lives next door and is already a
friend of the family. Things quickly take a dark twisted turn when the
aunt starts to abuse the girl while often forcing the neighbor boy to
watch. What makes it really twisted is not only does the boy next door
see what's going on but other boys and girls from the neighborhood show
up to watch this girl get tortured and even mutilated by her aunt and
cousins. This was a very disturbing movie.

Queen Sugar - "For They Existed" - Series finale which wraps pretty much
everything up and almost everyone goes out on top.

Wednesday (Netflix streaming) "Friend or Woe" - Episode 3. Mostly
background noise.

Sorry. I saw Hank Ketcham and wondered why he was writing horror novels.

As Arthur said, this is based on a true story. There are actually
multiple films about this - at least more than one. I am pretty sure
there was at least a TV film or miniseries about it, but I want to say
there's at least one other theatrical movie about it too.

You can also read all the gory details on Wikipedia - the adult woman
who drove the whole thing was a real piece of work. She should have
been fragged after she was released from prison.
