The end of that scene:

DUTTON (to policy committee): You're all fired. (to assistant) How much money
does that save?

ASSISTANT: Salary and benefits, about $1.6 million.

DUTTON: It's a great day for the people of Montana.

Is it too early to start a "John Dutton for President" campaign?

There are no John Duttons in politics. Politicians absolutely rely upon
magical thinking when making public policy. Stanley is the true-to-life
character, not Dutton.

It's the fault of the voters. They want to believe in the magic.

Is Dutton still branding his men on his ranch? I didn't care for the
indentured servitude nature of his labor agreements and had to stop
watching the show early on.

Dutton never actually did it. It's Rip, his ranch foreman, that does it.
Dutton knows about it and tolerates it, though.

On the other hand, the only thing that would have made that scene better is if
Rip had been waiting in the hallway to give Stanley the Sage Grouse expert a
ride to the 'train station'.

Either way, it creeped me out enough that I stopped watching.

Poor Verman, he was "too sensitive" for the basic premise of the show.
