If you scroll up to the top of this thread, you'll see that you and I were involved in a discussion over whether your painting was "celebrated" as you'd claimed.

You later claimed that it had been intended as humor (sarcasm?), but quickly retracted it and started posting definitions of "celebrated" in defense of your original statement. And followed that up by boasting that you had a well-attended gallery showing last year.

I don't believe that your painting is "celebrated" by any stretch of the imagination. Celebrated artists have attained a level of renown wherein their name should be recognizable to the general populace (a celebrated artist is a celebrity).

My overwhelming suspicion is that your "gallery showing" is on a level with having your art printed in a free "magazine" whose primary purpose is to advertise local businesses and events.

Please don't take that personally. I don't consider anyone here to be "celebrated" -- or even moderately well known -- so your claim of celebration smacks of Donkey-level delusion.

What is my interest in this? I think it is always a good idea to know the people one is interacting with on a more or less daily basis. Don't you agree?

I can only "know" you through your postings to this group -- most of it through conjecture, or from stories posted by your buddy -- and none of it positive. Your gallery showing affords you with the opportunity to present a different side of "General Zod" (as opposed to the psychotic face glaring at us from the mug shot Will posted, and the blackout drunk, homicidal "maniac" Will told us about).

How much this changes my preconceived notions of you is dependent upon how legitimate the gallery showing appears.

The General's painting isn't spoken of positively in AAPC. So even if we grant the General some leeway and allow that it is "widely known" within the confines of AAPC, one could hardly say that it is celebrated (unless one considers "monkey-face" a compliment -- which, in your case, it would be).

When you celebrate your birthday, you throw a party. It's a joyful occasion.

When a poem celebrates a Summer day, the poem depicts Summer in a positive light.

When a painting is celebrated, it means that many people know of, and *like* it.

It's tragic that a man who so desperately wishes to be a writer possesses the vocabulary of a ten-year old, but that's pretty much the level that you're at.

Nobody wants to have to go back to square one and start all over again, but no one will ever take you seriously as a writer until you have at least a basic understanding of the language.

Once you've learned how to write intelligibly, you can go back and edit/rewrite your poetry into a more presentable form.

Until then, you're going to continue making idiotic statements like the above.

I saw the Safe House's gallery online. The General was one of the two best artists they had. That isn't saying much, as most of the "artwork" looked like it had been finger painted in a Kindergarten class for mentally challenged children... but if I were a rich person looking for a feel good tax write off, his works would have been my second choice.

I doubt that it's been "well known" even in a two-bit city like Columbus. Just because it graced the cover of the local fish wrap/listings flyer, doesn't mean that anyone took notice of it.

And, yes, I can draw that conclusion based on the General's current circumstances. No *celebrated* artist is going to be homeless. Zod is homeless. Therefore Zod is not a celebrated artist.
