Yeah, heard about his death on sports radio (and not the classic rock station!)
Also, saw Jeff Beck and Stevie Ray Vaughn at Cobo Hall in Detroit back in 1989.

Beck was my favourite guitar player of all time. I never saw him live
and now I never will.... I will continue to watch recordings of his gigs
on YouTube to see him demonstrate true mastery of his instrument. A
virtuoso if ever there was one and I don't say that lightly.

Pretty much agree... I might like Chet Atkins and Tommy Emmanuel
a bit better, but he's up there. I have his DVD tribute to Les Paul
which I play a lot. (He and Immelda May do Les Paul/Mary Ford's
multitracking live!)

I hadn't even heard of that album until I saw it mentioned in one of
the tributes I saw today; I need to check it out!!

One of the tributes mentioned that Beck first heard Les Paul on the
radio - when he was 6 - playing How High the Moon and asked what the
instrument was that he was hearing. His mother told him it was an
electric guitar and he immediately declared that's what he wanted to
play. And the rest is history....

Les Paul literally set the course of Beck's life so it's no wonder he
did a tribute album to him. I'll bet it's great!

Yeah! He and Immelda do a whole set of Les Paul hits live
and it's really hard to distinguish them from the originals!
(Of course a lot of the sound is actually from tape, but
they do it seamlessly.) I should of course include Les Paul
in my list of favourites, too.
