Yeah, that was my thinking as the most likely accident he would have

Sounds like he was trying to do something to the machine (again I'm
thinking remove snow/ice from around the wheels/tracks) when it
started up and then ran over his leg. I worry that even if he comes
out okay he is going to end up losing that leg because that had to do
major damage to that leg.

One of network newscasts (I was switching around) showed tweets of him
talking about his plow just a few days ago, he must have been pretty
proud of it.

Remember The Shining when they called it a "Snow Cat"? I wonder if that
was because it was made by Caterpillar.

A "Snow Cat", short for "snow caterpillar", is simply a generic name
for a large vehicle with treads/tracks (i.e. caterpillar tracks) that
is used to drive over snow. They're made by a few different
manufacturers, but the Caterpillar company is not one of them. They
often can have a snow plough fitted as an accessory, but they are used
used without one as well.

The original name "Sno-Cat" was a trademark of the Tucker Sno-Cat
Corporation that made such vehicles.

Latest reports have it as a "blunt chest trauma" - Could that have come
about from anything but a vehicle roll?!

Yes, a "vehicle roll" that doesn't travel at high speeds. I guess he
was right in front of it and didn't have a chance to move out of the
way. Maybe we'll never know.
