I stuck around work most of the day on Friday, so I didn't get through
much meaningful on TV...

But, repeating what I said elsewhere on RAT: After I got home from work
yesterday, I got my ancient 1990s era DVD player to work with my OLED
TV via a RCA/Composite-to-HDMI converter! DVD image quality is *awful*
on this TV! Old-timey DVD's are virtually unwatchable on it!! But I got
the old DVD player to work!! :)

After that, I kind of put DOOL on for a while...:

soaps: DOOL - I think I got through Monday's to Wednesday's ep's on The
Peacock. Chanel discovered Alex K. hiding under the table, forcing
Allie to admit that she slept with Alex - Chanel breaks up with Allie
on the spot, so they definitely seem to be over. For some reason, Wendy
gives Johnny another chance - Tripp seems jealous at the prospect... It
looks like Xander and Gwen successfully blackmailed control of the
paper away from Jack (and Temp?Jennifer)... Nicole tells Booster Brady
that Chloe left town for a while. Stefan is now poisoning(?) EJ; and
Stefan blows his date with Gabi, who disappointingly goes running to Li
(it's impossible to respect Gabi when she does pathetic stuff like
this!!). Gabi finds out that Sloan is rep'ping Dr. Rolf as his
lawyer... And in the weirdest bit yet, Kayla somehow visits Steve in
his dreams, and tells him that the three women are likely not in
Heaven, and were tricked into signing their souls away to the Devil!!

You Can't Escape Me (Lifetime) - I think this was basically a low-rent
version of the feature film "Enough", with recent Lifetime-staple Gina
Vitori instead of Jennifer Lopez...
Anyway, this took *way* too long for the payoff when Vitori, after
training in self-defense classes, finally beats the stuffing out of her
controlling, abusive creep of a husband. (Actually, I think she
inadvertantly kills him!!) That doesn't happen until the last 5 mins of
the flick! Most of the rest of this TV movie is marking time until then.
P.S. Fidelia Grace, last seen playing a teen in Lifetime's "The
Shoplifting Pact", here plays an adult friend of Vitori's, and I
realize in this flick that Grace is actually *way too old* to be
playing a teen!

Recorded for later: Just GH, though I recorded "Walker: Independence"
on Thursday...

--
"Who would ever do this to him!?" - HottCiara on DOOL (04-27-2020), asking
who would stab Victor Kirakis... How about ANYONE WHO'S EVER MET HIM??!!

I know! This is why in spite of having probably hundreds of movies
still on DVD, I never watch them unless I have *no* other choice!
Everything is getting a blu-ray or 4K upgrade.

But I got the

Get a cheap blu-ray player. Your TV and your eyes will thank you for it.

On the day my furnace stopped working I shivered while watching:

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit - "Dutch Tears" - Fin is held hostage
by an ex-con. But it turns out the ex-con is a victim so everything is
OK. Now time to track down the man who assaulted him umpteen years ago
when he was incarcerated.

Law & Order: Organized Crime - "All in the Game" - Oz Scott directed
this episode. I recognize that name! Anyway, the episode itself was
mostly background noise.

The Flash - "Hear No Evil" - I finally forced myself to watch episode 2.
It wasn't good. It was really bad. Nuff said.

"Kindergarden Cop" was particularly unwatchable! (It may be the oldest
DVD I have in my collection, actually...)

The best part about this story - going through my (minimal) DVD
collection that I have out now, I realized that my late Mom got me the
"fullscreen" version of "The Fellowship of the Ring", not the
"widescreen" version!! (At least "The Two Towers" is widescreen!)

Needless to say, I didn't even test trying to watch "The Fellowship of
the Ring"!!

Bummer - That's an expensive repair if you have to replace it.... :(

Is this the episode where "Snow" decides to stay "Snow", and not try to
get Caitlin or Frost back from the dead?!

If so, Anim made me watch that whole episode! I'm mad at Anim for it!! ;p

Personally I think you're exaggerating the difference of the visual
experience in DVD and Blu-ray. I have some movies that have both the
Blu-ray and DVD versions and if I put one in blindfolded I doubt I
could tell which one it was (when the movie actually starts and all the
Blu-ray "ramping up" BS is over).

I have an old Panasonic Blu-ray that's slow as hell in turning fully on
and responding to commands like fast forward compared to my DVD players
in other rooms, I don't know if all Blu-rays are like that because this
is the only Blu-ray I've ever owned.

There are lot more factors than just DVD or blu-ray. If you go back to
the days of DVD only anamorphic vs non-anamorphic was a big deal. But
if you were watching on a full frame TV you probably wouldn't notice a
difference. You upgrade to a HDTV and suddenly it makes all the
difference in the world. It's a difference that an older TV couldn't
see although the difference was always there. But on a lower res TV it
all looked the same. It's sort of the same thing happening now.

I don't buy DVDs anymore, but I still watch them occasionally when I
rent them from Netflix. A movie produced on both DVD and blu-ray in mid
2000s will probably look more or less the same in terms of picture
quality, with blu-ray still having the edge. But if you take that same
DVD/blu-ray that was produced in 2005 and strike a new 2K or 4K print
and put that new print on a blu-ray or 4K disc, then there will be a
noticeable uptick in picture quality. But that assumes you have a
modern TV that can produce the uptic in picture quality. If you are
watching on an old TV from the 1990s then sure DVD and blu-rays are
going to all look the same on that TV...
