There have been a huge number of television series.
Some come and go in a flash and others we may
have heard of but never watched. But for some of us
there was a TV series that we liked so much that we
watched every single episode, season after season.

So, in your opinion, what is the best TV series of all time?
The one you always watched and never missed? Well
for me there is no question, It was "NYPD Blue".

i have been watching television since the 1950s, and after a while all the series start to blur together. Writing for television is essentially establishing a set of characters and then placing obstacles in their path that they have to jump over to progress the plot. When you realize everybody on television is involved in a relay race jumping hurdles, all the hurdles start to blur together.

I'd say "Lost" was the best tv series ever.

Bazillions of people were glued to their tvs every week to see what
the latest crazy mystery would be and how the characters would deal
with it and because there was no specific genre for the story, viewers
of all kinds were watching and spending hours on-line debating and
discussing what they just watched.

The opening scene for S02 in particular is simply beautiful art and
blew everybody's minds.

Well for some Caruso is kind of a "like him or hate him" guy. He was
on the first two (2) of the twelve (12) seasons of "NYPD Blue" . He left
when they refused his salary demands. But the other reason he chose to leave
is that his star was on the rise and he had a couple of movie offers on the table.

Turns out leaving "NYPD Blue" was a big career mistake. He made two
movies and neither did very well at the box office. After that Caruso's
acting career took a nose dive. It was years later before he made
any kind of come back.

Ah, OK. I just watched the opening scene of Season Two "Lost"
"Man of Science, Man of Math". It appears I lack the artistic
sophistication to fully grasp this "simply beautiful art". I saw a
guy washing dirty dishes, then exercising, then people
looking down a dark shaft while holding a burning torch.

The one I always watched was Star Trek. That doesn't make it the best
in an objective sense, but does make it the one with the concept I found
most appealing.

I remember that show; it either followed or preceded Captain Nice. Both were idiotic with juvenile humor and plots. As a kid I loved them both.

So did I. Unfortunately, while they were attempts to capitalize on the
success of Batman, they showed no understanding of what had made Batman
popular.

IIRC Mr. Terrific ran on CBS half an hour before Captain Nice ran on
NBC. Mr. Terrific was tarted up into a two-hour TV-movie in the early
1970s, "The Pill Caper," with new interstitial scenes with John McGiver
and Paul Smith. Captain Nice was rerun briefly while Comedy Central
was starting up; I think CC had inherited the show from Ha!
