Fall Behind

There is one star left
and it beckons before the sun decides
it rules the day and reckons
the turn is his or hers
depending on your approach
to such things.

And those silly clocks went back on time
just yesterday
until spring does its thing
as crocus peek out from winter and stale peat,
that noble greet of brightness enabling
those pinks and violet petals
to fill the canvas by brittle
all-purpose polyester
sash and trim, held by hands that
only turn forward into fall.

Willy De Ville sings out
‘Story Book Story’ as I finish that homemade
macaroni salad and slices of genoa
and look up at the portrait of a mother and father,
the smile frozen despite sunsets, stars, change of time,
they being stuck in yesterday,
me navigating today.

Rain tomorrow they say as I finish watching
‘In Cold Blood’ based on the Capote book,
brush the teeth, shut the light and look for that one star
before it’s distinguished by dreams.

Life has that last sale date, never stamped
but hidden from view, the ultimate
guessing game.

/inspirations/

Not A Haiku, Just A Dream (the original straight from the Muse)
Into Fall, I let them trek ahead
I saw a skull in the field's furrow
Still I follow them further

Here's some mellow stuff from our musical libraries, stuff you will appreciate
From Anon to you:
Green Carnation - Sweet Leaf
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pHZpEzhSB8
"Oh dear mother
Why do we have to go?
Why don't we stay?
How can we be yours
When we are always
Always away?"
From Ash to you:
Agathodaimon - Adio (Acoustic Version, with lyrics) (2013)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ne0wYCiEE2s
"We break down as the stars burn cold
Burn bitter and cold inside our hearts
Got a wound so deep, so deep and old..."

Any time. We'll have more. Every full and new moon gets a playlist devoted to it-- spanning genres. As you've seen, we combine art, music, writing and poetry, which now includes yours...
