This is an infrequent series about pro wrestling history.

On May 11, 1985, NBC aired the first wrestling show on network.TV since 1955 when the premiere of the WWF's Saturday Night's Main Event. The show was taped the night before at the Nassau Coliseum.

In the first match, Mike Rotunda and Barry Windham teamed up with Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat to defeat the Iron Sheik, Nikolai.Volkoff and George "The Animal" Steele in six man tag team action. Then Hulk Hogan faced Bob Orton in a rare televised WWF World title match. The Hulkster beat Orton to.retain. In a rematch from the match that aired on MTV the previous July, Wendi Richter defended the Women's title against the Fabulous Moolah. In the main event, Junkyard Dog (with his mom) squashed Pete Doherty. That's right, a squash was the main event.

NBC would air SNME occasionally in Saturday Night Life's time slot until 1991. The show would be noted for its matches, and silly skits starring Mean Gene Okerlund. NBC would revive the show in the mid 2000s, and in the posts pandemic era, house shows have carried the SNME name.
