Fletcher mentioned his plans for an opening sequence in which De Armas
would drive through the mountains for three minutes. Executives at Apple
Studios vetoed the sequence because, they said, if "something doesn't
happen in the first 30 seconds, the data shows that people will turn off".
--------

Correction: *SOME* people will turn it off. But not every
streaming-movie needs universal appeal any more than every theater movie
does. That's major-network thinking.

I made it through the first minutes of GHOSTED and lost interest after the lengthy cutesy boy girl dialog.

I'll try watching again some night when I have insomnia and need a sedative..

26% positive rating on rotten tomatoes, showing up on google tv as recommended at $24.99 last week. I'd be pissed if I paid for it ... am unhappy for wasted 1.8GB HDD space, with 1080p HD bootleg copy.

Try Renfield instead. Wild ride & bloody parody with good performance by Nicolas Cage.
I don't even like blood and gore. but the severed arms used as throwing spears were worth the admission price.

If the goal is to have an action oriented film starting with a 3
minute driving sequence where nothing is happening sets the wrong
tone. In this case I have to agree with the Apple Studios execs that
cutting that sequence was the right move. For other movies the
sequence might have been appropriate as it sets the mood for a more
relaxed experience.

I'm reminded of THE BIRDS and PSYCHO, two energetic horror-flicks that
open with extended longeurs ...as well as, from the same genre, SISTERS,
whose composer, Bernard Hermann, warned director Brian De Palma that,
without a frightening opening score over the mundane opening, the
audience would bolt, simply because De Palma wasn't Hitchcock.

Well that would certainly elmiinate most credits wouldn't it?

Have ANY of those James Bond start of the movie "action scenes" (the
ones before the credits) EVER significantly affected the plot?

Why not mention the best of all times: the seven minute tracking shot
done in one take at the beginning of Orson Welles "Touch of Evil."

Spielberg almost never makes R rated movies. He seems to do okay. This
garners another rating of horseshit.
