So Hunter Biden being involved in a business that received over $10
million dollars from foreign companies while Joe Biden was VP is
worthy of criminal charges but Jared Kushner receiving over $2 billion
dollars in Saudi money isn't worthy of even investigating. Nor is
Ivanka Trump receiving 34 trademarks in China after she said she was
dissolving her brand to focus on government work while her father was
President.

Influence peddling has been a long standing tradition with the rich
and powerful and their families so it's no surprise it has gone on
with these people. That said to attack one family for it while
ignoring the other suggests you aren't really concerned with the
influence peddling (nor are the Republicans doing the investigation.)
Instead it's just another way to try to attack the Democrat in the
office while ignoring what happened with the Republican that was in
the President's office before.

Of course given the current laws I'm not sure that the Trump family,
nor the Biden family did anything wrong from a legal stand point. So
this will be constantly brought up until Biden is no longer in office
and then it will be dropped because it's not about corruption, but
about having something, anything to attack Biden over. Much like the
way the deficit is the most important thing in the world when a
Democrat holds the Presidency, but as soon as a Republican gets the
office all worries about the deficit are tossed out the window, but
I'm sure that's nothing to do with politics.

Sorry I don't buy that. The prime minister of Canada's mother and
brother received speaking honoraria totallnig $ 3/4 million from a
foundation which received federal funds (don't remember the amount but
in the hundred of millions) and political pressure was used to avert a
full scale investigation.

Had they publicly contributed their honoraria to some other charitable
organization the story would have died overnight but they didn't so it
remains a matter of public interest which I hope is raised at the next
election.

Point is it isn't just American family members of prominent
politicians who have ethics issues.

That just avoids the point that I was making that complaining about
the people in the Biden family who were trading off the Biden name
while Biden was VP is only fair game if you are also going to complain
about the people in the Trump family doing the same when he was in
office (or the same for any other family while a member was in a
political office.) Trading on the family name is a long tradition that
goes through every country, but one shouldn't complain about only when
someone from the group you don't like is in office.

Yup - I certainly don't think Americans have a monopoly on sainthood
or devilry.

As you know I'm a Canadian (more or less accidentally but it's done)
and generally of a conservative bent (hell I'm a card carrying member
of the Conservative Party of Canada) which would put me pretty much in
line with mainline US Republicans pre-2016. I'm not a big fan of the
various "preferences" though am pretty much live and let live though
have no room for the US style 'progressive left' which to me is pretty
hard core small M marxist. On the other hand no use for the Trumpistas
either. I'm NOT in favor of privatizing everything and will accept
some state intervention as long as it's not too heavy handed and
respects rights.

And absolutely am stone cold in favor of fairness. You cannot expect a
fair shake if you only criticize the other side. Sauce for goose
gander etc.

No question I presently think much of the US Left is far to the left
of Bernie Sanders and that's saying something. Because no question
your character matters much more than the group you may or may not
belong to or self-identify as.

Which I imagine damns me forever in quite a few peoples' eyes in 2023
America though probably am fairly mainstream here.

Hopefully something non-lethal will happen to Trump so that you folks
can get back to normal campaigning again in time for 2024. Because one
thing for sure - the United States never did need Trump to be great
though many would now seem to be trying to end that and that would be
