No, that's something else.

Tom Jones was a four-part series from WGBH Masterpiece that aired on PBS
starting April 30, 2023. ITVX airs it several weeks behind. UK
production entirely on location in Northern Ireland.

Stars Solly McLeod in what appears to be his first starring role; I
don't remember him from anything else. He's not in a lot of the first
episode as we get backstory and see Tom as a child.

The 1963 movie made Albert Finney an international star.

Sophia (the girl next door) is Sophie Wilde, black, Australian, quite
lovely. The character is given an all-new backstory as Jamaican and
Squire Western is now her grandfather. Also, she narrates.

I was planning on catching up this evening with three episodes but, gah,
I found this off putting and ponderous. The humor was completely off;
this is from a famous comic novel. We don't get the sense that Tom is
roguish at all and he sleeps with just the one woman in the first
episode, who claims he knocked her up and she's in love with him and he
abandoned her. Of course she'd already been knocked up.

The incredibly lengthy novel had plenty of natural breaks but the first
episode seems to end at a random point.

Tom is sort of a boy scout and all the supporting players with the
exception of his adoptive father and mother are hateful and unpleasant.

Not finishing it.
