Hey, they just upgraded my Netflix plan to 1080.

More importantly, how are you feeling today?

Looks like I've always been HD with the 'Flix - makes sense: if it
weren't I would easily have been able to tell on the new TV.

My fever cleared this morning for a while, but it's back - I've had a
low-grade fever since yesterday and for most of today. (But I still
have to do work for two more days.) We'll see if I am better tomorrow...

I didn’t realize that switching to the ad supported tier, lowered the image
quality until they told me they were bumping it back up again. But I hardly
ever watch Netflix.

I was hot and miserable all day yesterday and I slept this afternoon and
woke up shivering. I don’t know if that’s a good sign or not.

Yes, in fact, you *do* get better resolution than I do. According to this:

https://www.netflix.com/signup/planform

The "with ad" and "Standard" plans are both 1080p ("True HD"). I'm on
"Basic", which is only 720p (which isn't really "HD" in my book).

It would be interesting if the "ad" plan was originally 720p, but they
bumped it up to 1080p. I can't figure out why they would do that,
unless they are just going to get rid of/phase out the "Basic" plan...

I had the sweats last night (Mon-Tues night), so I may be done with the
fever now. But I still feel pretty crappy.

They sent me the announcement that they were bumping it up to 1080 within
the month. But they didn’t say what they were bumping it up from. 720 seems
the only likelihood.

But I get my HBOMax from my cable subscription.

Just lat night I was watching Succession, when a couple of minutes in it
occurred to me that I could switch over to HBOMax and watch it in 4K. I
only recently started to watch HBO shows on Max for the 4K upgrade and
now they pull this. :-(

So they've properly planted the hook to get you to upgrade to their
top tier and are now reeling you in.

Well then I have good news for you - I think us cable subscribers are
still getting 4k!

My story: "Aquaman" used to not be in 4k on HBO Max (I checked a while
ago). On Max, it's saying it is 4k with Dolby Atmos. So, as a test, I
fired up "Aquaman" on Max. My soundbar was telling me that the sound
was in Dolby Atmos. I'm about 98% sure if I'm getting Atmos sound on
this, I am also getting 4k!

What is unclear to me is whether cable susbcribers have been
"grandfathered" into the "Premium" tier. Or whether, as other reports
have implied, we might have the 4k stuff for about 6 months before it
gets yanked away from us.

But you might want to try your own experimenting - see if you are
getting Dolby Atmos on Max's other 4k offerings: if you are, you are
almost certainly getting 4k as well.
