In the rerun yesterday (thank you MeTv) "Crime Wave",
of "The Adventures of Superman" (accept no imitations)
during the intro/set-up, the voice over/announcer
describes Perry White as ... publisher... (etc.)
and then points out "former Mayor of Metropolis".

Huh? HUH? Was this referenced anywhere else in
the series?

Thanks

Ian’s Wikipedia entry says:

“In at least one episode, it is revealed that Perry has served a term as
mayor of Metropolis before becoming editor-in-chief on the Planet. In the
episode "Drums of Death", Perry White has a sister named Kate. In the
episode "Jet Ace", Perry White has a nephew named Chris.”

There’s also an episode where he has a law degree he never used, and then
that one where he was inventing a way to extract uranium from seawater.

I think all of these were one shot mentions.

Is this a set of dropped plot points or backstory discontinuity? Some of
this stuff seems utterly pointless to mention knowing that it's not
going to be used in a future script.

In the '60s comics, after the series was done, Perry White was
appointed U.S. senator from whatever state Metropolis is in. The new
editor of the Planet was Van Benson, who turned out to be an FBI agent
working undercover.

That's just dumb.

There’s next to no continuity in Adventures of Superman.
You’re lucky they remember there’s a hunk of kryptonite in Metropolis Bay.
Sometimes his costume is one of a kind, sometimes he’s got a closet full.
“Crime Wave” was the only TV script ever written by Ben Peter Freeman.
Apparently he came from the radio shows. Who knows what he was thinking.
Maybe he was getting paid by the word?
