> What did you watch?

I had a plan yesterday! - 5 movies off 5 streamers! (I couldn't fit the
sixth (that was Max) in...)

I succeeded!

Venom (Disney+) - I've been wanting to watch this 2015 flick for a
while, but this was another one that I decided I didn't want to watch
on commercial TV. So I figured I might never see it...
Then Sony cut the deal with Disney(+), and now at least some of the
Sony "Marvel" movies can be found on Disney+ - right now, that is (I
think) all of the earlier Spider-Man movies, "Spider-Man: Homecoming",
and this. ("Venom 2", and the two later Spider-Man flicks, "Far From
Home" and "No Way Home", are still not on Disney+ yet...)
Anyway, I enjoyed this. Being out from under Disney means that
"Venom" can be quite a bit "darker" than the Disney "Marvel" movies,
which is a welcome change.
Despite that, this one still has some decent humor! (I agree with
Venom - if you have a pile of bodies, you have to do a pile of heads to
go with it!!)
The one thing that kind of doesn't work is Venom's 180 from "I am
here to kill Earthlings" to "I'm a traitor and I'm going to save the
Earth!!" that happens way too fast.
Also, it's a little awkward to have Michelle Williams in this! (And
what the Hell is Jenny Slate doing in this flick?!)
But, like I said - I enjoyed this, and will check out "Venom 2"
whenever it shows up on Disney+.

Slayers (Hulu) - This 2022 flick was pretty dang silly, but I actually
feel like they got the tone right.
Thomas Jane stars as a crusty old vampire hunter - on a personal
quest of revenge! REVENGE!!
His story intersects with a bunch of brain-dead twentysomething
"internet influencers" (Abigail Breslin, Jack Donnelly, Lydia
Hearst(!), and Kara Hayward) who are invited by a billionaire couple
(Adam Ambruso and Malin Akerman!) for... (nefarious?!) "reasons".
So, this has a pretty decent cast.
Anyway, of course the billionaire couple has ulterior motives -
starting with that they are vamps!!
Eventually, Hayward's character is forced to team up with Jane's
crusty slayer to save the day!
This isn't deep. But I found it amusing and enjoyable.

Unlocked (Prime) - This 2017 film felt like it somehow came in under the radar!
It's apparently Michael Apted's (Gorillas in the Mist, Nell, The
World Is Not Enough) final film.
This flick stars Noomi Rapace as sort of a semi-retired CIA agent
(now working with MI-5 in London, through her contact (Toni Collette)),
and former interrogator, who gets pulled into interrogating a courier
in order to stop an immiment terrorist attack.
To say things go sideways is an understatement!
Eventually, she is forced to team up with a common thief (Orlando
Bloom)... or is their coincidental running across each other just *too*
coincidental!?!
Others in the cast include Michael Douglas, as Rapace's old boss in
the CIA, and John Malkovich as Douglas's boss in the United States...
Of course, if Douglas and Malkovich are involved, the odds are good
that at least one of them is a baddie! and perhaps both!!
After a bit of a slow start I found this pretty gripping... until
the ending - Too many of these flicks now have really weak villains
with basically nonsensical "motivations", and this film definitely
sports on of those.
But, otherwise, I thought this was a pretty good action/spy flick.

The Invitation (Netflix) - This 2022 vampire flick was... OK.
Nathalie Emmanuel plays a young(?! - she's mid-30s IRL!!) woman and
now orphan who signs up for an Ancestry-like service (they only get
this part partially right!) to search for family. What she gets is a
far too "friendly" richie-rich second cousin from England who
immediately invites her on an all-expenses-paid! trip back to England,
ostensibly for a wedding, in order to meet the family!
It doesn't take a genius to figure out that, 1) there is something
hinky going on with this "family", and 2) there is definitely something
hinky going on with this wedding!
The flick sports the barest(heh) naked nudity, but only in the form
of a body double for Stephanie Corneliussen (remember her?!). Alana
Boden also pops up in this.
It's also not particularly gory, but it is decent and creating "atmosphere".
Anyway, this was OK, but maybe takes too long to get where it's
going. But I did generally like the ending.

Knock at the Cabin (Peacock) - I agree with Arthur that this 2023 flick
is basically "mid-level M. Night Shyamalan".
Frankly, for all the guff "The Happening" takes, I think it's a
better Shyamalan "apocalypse" flick than this one.
Still, this one is OK, I guess.
Apparently, the film deviates from the book it is based on, "The
Cabin at the End of the World", though I'm not sure which sports the
better ending (I probably prefer the book's ending, though I concede it
would make for a less-than-satisfying film ending...)

Based on my checking yesterday, I still need to get to "Jumanji:
Welcome to the Jungle" (which I still haven't seen!) off Hulu, and
"Kingsman: The Secret Service" (which I also still have never seen!)
off Max.

Karen Gillan worked out to an incredible extent, not as much as a woman's
gymnast but achieved something of that body. She looked sexy as hell.

But Jack Black gave the best performance of his career playing a teenage
girl! Kevin Hart gave a good performance as well but the script made the
character so selfish and petty that he deliberately caused harm.

Dwayne Johnson's character was one note repeating a single joke and the
performance didn't find enough depth to the character.

The movie is generally fun.

>and "Kingsman: The Secret Service" (which I also still have never seen!)
>off Max.

Meh. It has a few moments and the "underwater" set piece, now that I
know it wasn't CGI and the actors were truly in that flooded set, was
truly impressive. The plot rises to adequacy at times. A lot of it doesn't
hold together.

Remember, it's not COPYING all the familiar movies, but REFERENCING
them! It's supposed to be parody but that really doesn't excuse the
script.

There is a lot of gross stuff in the movie that I didn't find
entertaining.

Good performances -- better than the script deserves -- from Colin
Firth, Taron Egerton (who really is likeable), and Mark Strong.

Samuel L. Jackson's stutter and the one-note villainy wore thin.

It's better than The Golden Circle, but that's not saying much. I've
tried to watch the backstory movie The King's Man but it doesn't hold my
interest and I turned it off after 20 minutes.

I noticed last night that the Disney + has added three of the terrible
fantastic four films and at least one of the terrible fantastic four
cartoons.

The first Kingsman movie is good fun. The second is a morbid and miserable
mess to be avoided.

I noticed yesterday that this series is in 4k. Probably not enough to
get me to watch though...

There are three Kingsmen movies. They recently did a prequel. I
currently have all three on my watch list for October. But I keep
moving the watch date, so let's see if the October date sticks or not.

I had Jumanji on the watch list, I think also in October. But I decided
to remove it from the watch list until Jumanji 3 (or 5 depending on how
you number them) gets a date.

But it's not! It was only directed by him. Unlike all of his other
flicks, he didn't write this. It's based on a book by a totally
different person.

The book's ending was terrible. I vote for the film.

The new Miles Morales Spiderman movie that is about to get released is
getting crazy reviews. Things like this is the best superhero movie
ever. It isn't just a few people saying so as it seems like every
review is glowing.

The first was good, the next two not so good. The prequel was just
okay.

JUMANJI, the original was good. I started the second one and ended up
not getting very far for some reason. I'll have to get back to it at
some point.

Wiki says they’re working on a fourth one which was supposed to be done
concurrently with the prequil but keeps getting pushed back

I didn’t know anything about the prequel. Even though it’s a couple years
old now, just watch says every place inquires you pay ala cart to watch it.

A friend of mine makes Jumanji board games.

But I don’t like MM Spider-Man. I’m a PP Spider-man purist.

And I’m still annoyed they keep killing Gwen, just because Gerry Conway
can’t write his way out of a pay toilet.

I actually like "Zathura: A Space Adventure" a lot more than the
original Jumanji. Although I have grown to like the original more over

So that October date might not hold... I'm really in no rush to watch
them again. And if there is another on the way it's probably best to
just hold off a year or two longer. Mainly I was just planning to watch
them around when I revisit the "Kick-Ass" movies, but I don't *have* to
watch them together.

The prequel was mediocre, but I did want to give it a second chance.
