> What did you watch>?

I absolutely completed, and sumbitted, grading for my main job.
Everything is graded for my side-job, so all I have to do now is submit
the grades for it - I may do that today (Fri. at the latest...).

So now should have some more time for watching stuff - I think I may
start finishing off "Titans" today (Thurs.).

Yesterday, I got through:

soaps: DOOL - Tues' ep. Xander strong-arms Gwen into letting him hire
"Chloe Lane" for the paper. Alex asks Gwen for a job, but she has to
tell him "no" because Chloe got it first - but Brady ends up hiring
Alex for "Basic Black", telling Alex that the best thing he ever did
was to get off Victor's "Titan treadmill". Justin gets into it with
Maggie about firing Alex, and convinces her to rehire Alex, but Alex
turns her down! (good for him!) telling them that he works for Titan
now! In C-Town, Bonnie discovers that Sarah Horton is preggers with
Xander's baby.

Gotham Knights (recorded) - "Poison Pill" (ep. #10). Covered
extensively in my (and shawn's) separate thread!
This episode was actually mostly good, I thought, outside of the
stuff with Brody March, and the really bad "science" with the
radioactive poisoning.

Hidden Exposure (Tubi) - Another "Tubi original" that I ended up
finding disappointing.
Yeah, they are taking more chances than Lifetime - but it feels like
most of Tubi's "chances" aren't paying off.
This played more like an "indie flick" than a Lifetime-type movie
(note: generally that is *not* a compliment!) - this plays out like a
brooding character study(?).
Liana Liberato plays a retired(?) professional dancer-cum-kiddie
dance instructor. Her boyfriend (Jordan Rodrigues from "Dance Academy"
- ironincally, *he* is the real dancer!!) is a real piece of work -
he's bascially the prototypical "Lifetime boyfriend": selfish,
controlling, unloving... and eventually a cheater.
Boyfriend is determined to sell some kind of anti-hacking
programming to a tech titan (in a surprise of "casting against type",
the "tech titan" is played by... Richard Kind!!). Boyfriend comes
across tech titan's daughter (Rumer Willis, who kind of puts in the
only performance in this movie that I liked...) and starts to romance
her (with ulterior motives, 'natch).
Soon enough, he dumps Liberato's dancer, seemingly (to her!) out of
the blue, after a 6-year relationship!
Months later, dancer comes across him again - he seduces her into a
one-night stand, and then ghosts her, *again*.
Now she's obsessed with finding out what happened.
I would have liked this movie a lot more, if they had done more with
Liberato's character - like given her a steadfast mission of revenge!
REVENGE!!
As it is, the ending ends up being disappointing. Indeed, it doesn't
even fully pay out before movie's last scene (though the denouement is
implied).
Like I said: disappointing.

"Who would ever do this to him!?" - HottCiara on DOOL (04-27-2020), asking
who would stab Victor Kirakis... How about ANYONE WHO'S EVER MET HIM??!!

Stargate: SG-1 S5E19 'Meridian'
"SG-1 returns from an off-world mission to P9Y-3C3 with Daniel Jackson
suffering from what is likely a fatal dose of radiation. On the planet,
they dealt with the country of Kelowna and their representative Jonas
Quinn. That country was at the same stage of development as the United
States in the 1940s and well on their way to creating an atomic weapon
using Goa'uld technology found in an ancient temple. Daniel argued
against the Kelownans developing such a weapon and is accused of
attempting to sabotage the project. As members of the team sit by his
deathbed, Daniel receives an unexpected offer from someone they once met
off-world."

Major Samantha Carter: As we understand it, Jonas was responsible for
overseeing the research from an ethical perspective.
Colonel Jack O'Neill: Yeah, whatever.
Major Samantha Carter: He had several degrees from their most honored
education institution. Social studies, ancient Kelownan history...
Colonel Jack O'Neill: He was a nerd, sir. He and Daniel got along great.

Teal'c: If you are to die, Daniel Jackson, I wish you to know that I
believe that the fight against the Goa'uld will have lost one of its
greatest warriors. And I will have lost one of my greatest friends.

They finally got to kill off a main character.

Commentary: Director William Waring and DP James Menard. This was
William Waring's first directing gig so a lot of technical talk and
silences as they watch the episode.

---------------------

Stargate: SG-1 S5E22 'Revelations'
"Everyone at SGC is still trying to deal with Daniel's departure not
really knowing if he is gone forever or if he might return. O'Neill
requests that SG-1 stay on active duty while they await Daniel's
replacement. In a recent encounter with the Goa'uld, Thor was killed and
it would appear they have upgraded their shield and weapons systems
putting all of the protected planets - including Earth - at risk. The
Asgard continue to be occupied by their war with the Replicators and
want the SGC to mount a rescue operation and recover an Asgard
scientist, Heimdall, on the planet attacked by Osiris. When SG-1 arrives
to rescue Heimdall, he informs them that Thor is the Goa'uld's prisoner.
They set off to rescue both Asgards."

Teal'c: In which case, our chances of escape are negligible.
Colonel Jack O'Neill: Oh, I don't know. All we gotta do is bust outta
here, take out every Jaffa between here and the Pel'tak, commandeer the
ship and fly on home.
Teal'c: [dryly] I stand corrected.

Colonel Jack O'Neill: Any ideas?
Heimdall: We cannot risk capture. We must destroy the ship ourselves.
Colonel Jack O'Neill: Any *good* ideas?

Trivia: The Asgard Heimdall is voiced by Teryl Rothery, who also plays
Dr. Janet Fraiser on the series. This was the first fully CGI character
in SG-1 and Teryl did the motion capture for Heimdall as well,
apparently because she was actual Asgard sized. Well, not quite but
close. :P
Immediately after the intro sequence, Daniel's desk is shown with a
picture of James Spader, who portrayed Daniel Jackson in Stargate (1994).
First physical appearance of Anubis.

Commentary: Martin Wood (director), James Tichenor and the two writers.

I would have never guessed they used motion capture to do the Asgard.

It is a good rule to have tiny people do tiny characters. Having Ang Lee do
the motion capture for the hulk was one of the many many problems with that
movie.

This is a 2-day catch up. I watched:

Neverland (blu-ray) 2011 miniseries that serves as a prequel to Peter
Pan, starring Charlie Rowe as Peter, Rhys Ifans as Hook, and Bob Hoskins
as Smee (reprising the role he previously played in "Hook"). I watched
with the commentary with the writer/director Nick Willing. Willing
spoke a lot about making the movie dark and having to do two cuts of the
film for the studios involved. So how dark did Willing make this movie?
"Tinker Bell getting stomped on is my favorite moment in the movie.
When children see that scene, they scream." The movie also features
Keira Knightley as the voice of Tinker Bell and Anna Friel as a pirate
queen. On the commentary Willing also mentioned that Friel was
questioning how a woman could lead pirates so he told her about all the
real life women who lead pirates and Friel ended up basing her character
on a female pirate who sailed the seas during the 1500s.

Peter Pan & Wendy (Disney+) - New 2023 version of Peter Pan. Originally
I was going to watch the 2003 version starring Jason Isaacs as Hook.
But I knew this version was just released and since I was going to
eventually watch it anyway, I swapped out the 2003 version for this
version. It's the same story... This one stars Jude Law as Hook, Jim
Gaffigan as Mr. Smee and Yara Shahidi as Tinker Bell (I'm guessing this
is why she was written out of Grown-ish). I guess this version was OK.
But I think I like the 2003 version more. I should have done what I
originally planned and watched the 2003 version and saved this one for
later.

Hook (4K disc) 1991 sequel to Peter Pan directed by Steven Spielberg and
starring Robin Williams as an adult Pan, Dustin Hoffman as Captain Hook,
Julia Roberts as Tinker Bell, and Bob Hoskins as Mr. Smee. This is a
movie that I've grown to like more and more over the years. When it
first came out I was a kid and was expecting it to appeal to kids, but
in hindsight I think this movie was written to appeal more to adults and
as I've gotten older I can appreciate it a lot more than I was able to
when I was younger.

Gotham Knights - I caught up on the last two episodes. I need to track
down the summaries from earlier threads.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (4K disc) 2018 CGI superhero movie
featuring Miles Morales who has to take over as the new Spider-Man after
the original is killed by Kingpin. I know people love this movie, but
to me it's always just been meh. I was going to watch the 3D version
which is apparently reference quality, but settled for the 4K version so
I could listen to the commentary. On the commentary they spent a lot of
time talking about how great the 3D looked. :-(

This is a movie I bet totally *pops* in 4k! Too bad I can't track it
down anywhere right now... :(

(A Reddit group was talking about how great "Encanto" looks on an OLED
TV, and imagine the same is true of "Into the Spider-Verse"...)

Just Heimdall in this episode. Thor was still a puppet which worked
because he was confined in a torture bed the whole episode. And like I
said this was the first time they did it but they were pretty happy with
the results.

They did discuss some adjustments they had to make to the motion capture
to account for Teryl being 25% bigger than Heimdall. :)

Comcast says it's available for free on FXM. It's also available from
Sony and it's airing live right now on FX.

Which, of course, won't be in 4k. In fact, I would think the streaming
apps for the cable channels *won't even be in 1080p* (they'd likely be
in *1080i* or 720p!!).

I don't have 3D, so that makes no difference to me!

Of course - I'm not renting stuff from Apple TV, etc. unless it's
something that I will never be able to get via any other means (which
would mostly be older, pre-2000 stuff...).

My TV came with a free subscription to Sony's 4K streaming service. I
never used it and forgot I even had it until just now. If you have a
new 4KTV, check to see if maybe it has some free streaming services
included.

Hey, that's nice of them!
(If I had to do it all over again, I might get a Sony OLED over an LG
one, esp. if money was no object (but it will be!!).)

I checked, and it doesn't look like there's a decidated "4k LG Channel".
