Similar. You're describing what used to be known as "snake killer"
rounds too.

These are similar, but the shot is larger, and are supposed to be 1 shot
stops, since the balls shred tissue and perforate flesh. They're killers.

I remember getting about 6 feet away from a target, and they blew a hole
in it reminiscent of a shotgun blast.

I think my wording was a little confusing there.

The "snake shot" rounds had smaller balls, and was encased in a thin
plastic shell. The shell broke open easily and dumped the shot.
(This was like the "shotgun blast" I mentioned.)

I just went and looked closely at my safety slugs. They're encased in a
partial metal casing with a plastic tip. They hit first, and then
break apart spreading the balls.

Sounds like "shawn's" dad is an idiot because rats are rarely if ever a
harm to humans.

The Black Death (also known as the Pestilence, the Great Mortality or the
Plague) was a bubonic plague pandemic occurring in Western Eurasia and
North Africa from 1346 to 1353. It is the most fatal pandemic recorded in
human history, causing the deaths of 75–200 million people, peaking in
Europe from 1347 to 1351. The plague was caused by the bacterium Yersinia
pestis, which was spread by flea-carrying rats.

No. That's what you are talking about. moviePig is deliberately avoiding

This is astonishly ignorant on trots' part while taking a nasty shot at

Guess he's never had rats breaking into a feed storage and tearing
open bags of feed. Or ever considered that some people might not be
living in pristine locations with only well behaved rats that cook
meals for them. So it's not the harm to humans but the harm they can
and do cause to thing people own/use.

You'd think Effa Pee Pee, being the infallible amateur historian that he
claims to be, would occasionally take the time to educate his most
enthusiastic and ponderous remora, but alas, it usually falls to us to
let Hutt know when he's appalling wrong about something like this.

*Maybe Rats Aren't to Blame for the Black Death*

A provocative new study suggests that medieval plagues spread via fleas

Lets hope you're never in a similar situation but if you are, feel free
to bet your life on the good nature of the criminal who just pulled a
gun on you...

The moment moviePig starts explaining "seems to", what do you expect the
man brandishing the gun to do at that point?

My point is that you're placing a bet either way. If you're a trained,
tuned weapons expert, then maybe your chances of winning a shootout go
way up. Otherwise, that's not as clear (to me). And, none of this
assumes that any criminal has more than his own interests at heart.

Because the law abiding average citizen with a gun is of course an incompetent
doofus but a ghetto rat with a gun, is suddenly an unstoppable Terminator.

His own interest is getting away with his crime and it's in his best interest
to prevent you from testifying in court against him.

The point is, if YOU want to be defenseless then I won't stop you but don't
suggest I must join you in this suicide pact.

I don't understand how there's a 'bluff' here, or what one could be.

Meanwhile, it seems reasonable to expect that *neither* the rider nor
the driver will be particularly skilled with a handgun (...which happens
to accord with the reported outcome). But, afaics, that only increases
the danger. (And if the rider actually wants to eliminate eyewitness
testimony, he's got a busload of passengers to take out as well.)

If you want to believe the old tropes, that is. But there is mounting
evidence it wasn't rats that spread the plague, but humans.

> Rats have long been blamed for spreading the Black Death around Europe in the 14th century. Specifically, historians have speculated that the fleas on rats are responsible for the estimated 25 million plague deaths between 1347 and 1351. However, a new study suggests that rats weren’t the main carriers of fleas and lice that spread the plague—it was humans.
>
> In a study published in January 2017 in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, researchers simulated Black Death outbreaks in European cities to try and understand how the plague was spread. In their simulations, they looked at three possible models for infection: rats, airborne transmission, and fleas and ticks that humans carry around with them on their bodies and clothes.

The consensus seems to be that the plague spread too fast for rats to be the culprit carriers.

I'm no big fan of rats, but they might have been getting a bad rap on
this one.

There was an ep of LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE that involved rats eating the
community grain and making everyone sick. It ended with them burning down the
barn with the rats inside.
