Meta, the company that owns Facebook and Instagram, is about to start blocking content to some of its Canadian users. Meta is not happy about Bill C-18, a measure regulating the internet, currently wending its way through the legislative process.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/meta-blocking-news-canada-1.6863294

The government insists it will not be intimidated by these tactics. We'll see how long it takes them to cave.

I'm hostile to both Meta AND the current federal government so I could be happy if either - or both - "lose" the upcoming battle. Defeating Bill C-18 would be a win for this country just as defeating ANY bill by the current government would be a win. Despite their insistence to the contrary, the Liberals (and their NDP enablers) do NOT have my best interests at heart.

Facebook is going to start blocking access to its news section in California,
too, since the communist government here is threatening to confiscate millions
of dollars from them and hand it over to news organizations that can't
compete.

At the link: ""Meta's decision to 'unfriend' Canada by denying access
to trusted sources of news for some of their users, as wildfires burn
and when public safety is at stake is irresponsible and tone deaf,"
Deegan told CBC News in an email."

I thought "tone deaf" was bad now. Or was that last week?
