Starts off with a good chase scene between two monkey people with one
chasing the other to get back a powerful staff that he stole. It ends
with the one jumping off the cliff edge into an abyss that apparently
opens up into our world. One presumably is the monkey king and the
other his son.

Then we follow this Chinese American 10th grader as he goes about his
life trying to make friends and meet a girl. Typical teenage stuff.
Then they introduce more of the issue of a newcomer to the country
when Chen has to take a newcomer around the school for the day. The
newcomer is from China and knows some English and goes through the
expected bit of slight racist behavior from some of the other
students.

Ah, it turns out that Wei Chen, the new kid in school, is the monkey
person that jumped from the cliff earlier in the episode. It also
looks like they need the staff back because the Bull Demon and his
people are planning an attack

They really hit the racist angle with the in show, show called BEYOND
REPAIR which stars all white people except one Chinese man who lives
in the same building with the others. Mr Wong who seems to be
constantly tripping and falling and having things fall on him. Stuff
that makes him the butt of the joke but often beyond his control.

So it turns that Wei Chen is searching for something called the Fourth
Scroll, but his dad, who may be the Monkey King?, and has come down
from their plane of existence tells him that the Fourth Scroll is a
myth. He says that he brought back the sutras and there were only 3
scrolls. As usual for this show the dad refuses to actually listen to
his kid. Then the two of them fight over the staff and Wei Chen's
going home with his dad, Wukong. Suddenly Guanyin arrives so the
fighting stops, not sure who she is supposed to be but obviously very
powerful as she appeared out of thin air. She shrinks the staff down
to a needle size, gives it to Wei Chen, who then slides it into his
ear. Good hiding place.
